Users of the Steam Deck console have been astonished to discover that a highly anticipated game, initially believed unavailable for the platform, can now be played. On the Steam Deck, games can hold four levels of compatibility: Unknown, Unsupported, Playable, and Verified. Generally, major and popular games are either Playable or Verified, especially newer titles. However, users may occasionally encounter Unknown or Unsupported when downloading a new popular game. Nevertheless, one of the most eagerly awaited and highly-rated games of 2024 remains Unsupported on Steam Deck. Interestingly, a future game from the same series – not yet released – is already listed as Playable on Steam Deck.
It appears that Steam Deck users have observed that Silent Hill 2 is currently unsupported on their device, despite being released by Konami and Bloober Team back on October 8th. One might expect that support for the Steam Deck would have been added by now, but this has not happened yet. Consequently, some have speculated that the upcoming Silent Hill game, Silent Hill F, may also not be compatible with the Steam Deck. However, it’s been confirmed that at least the game will be playable upon its release.
Silent Hill F hasn’t been given a release date yet, and at this moment, there’s no assurance that it will come out in 2021. However, its Steam listing has recently been updated, and the Steam Deck compatibility changed to ‘Playable’. This suggests that it could be approved for use on Valve’s handheld gaming device.
It appears that Silent Hill F has been playable on Steam Deck despite not having a release date yet, while Silent Hill 2 remains unsupported. This might seem puzzling given that both games are published by Konami. However, the issue seems to be with the developers rather than Konami. While Bloober Team developed Silent Hill 2, Neobards Entertainment is responsible for Silent Hill F. The situation surrounding Silent Hill 2 on Steam Deck had been unclear, but recent developments seem to suggest that Bloober Team is at fault for not optimizing the game for the platform.
The predicament surrounding Silent Hill on Steam Deck is a bit strange, yet advantageous for its handheld users. Initially, there was speculation that Silent Hill F would follow in the footsteps of Silent Hill 2 regarding Steam Deck compatibility, but it appears that won’t be happening. Whether or not it will receive verification on the platform is still uncertain.
