As an avid gamer with a family and a limited budget, this new Steam Families feature has my heart racing! The days of juggling Family Sharing and Family View are finally over, replaced by a unified system that allows me to manage my family’s gaming library more efficiently.
For quite a while now, game-sharing capabilities have been offered on Steam. However, they’ve just taken things to the next level! Valve has revealed that the Steam Families function is now active, merging both Steam Family Sharing and Steam Family View into one comprehensive feature. With this update, Steam users can control which games their family members can access and when they can play these games.
A Steam Family Share feature enables up to five individuals to enjoy shared games from one another’s collections. This means that users can play games from other members’ libraries regardless of whether they are online. However, it’s important to note that multiple people can only play a single game concurrently if there are multiple copies of the game within the family library.
Developers have the choice to disable Steam Families in their games, so not every game on the platform may offer this feature. Additionally, as one might anticipate, this feature will come equipped with parental control options, enabling access to games, restricting purchases from the store, setting playtime limits, and more.
