During the current Steam Next Fest, gamers have been offered a sneak peek into the future of gaming, with over 4,000 demos of highly anticipated PC games. Many of these demos originate from emerging development studios, reflecting Valve’s aim to highlight independent teams and projects. Here are some noteworthy titles that have been making waves during this week-long festival, including “Mecha Break” and “Bongo Cat”, among others, at the February Steam Next Fest event.
As a gamer, I find it intriguing to venture beyond the well-trodden paths of popular demos and explore anything that catches my eye on Steam during events like Steam Next Fest. These showcases are designed to shed light on what’s brewing in the gaming industry, so let’s seize this opportunity to dive into as many games as possible!
Without further ado, here are Steam Next Fest’s most popular demos so far:
- Mecha BREAK Demo – 317,522 players
- Fellowship Demo – 16,721 players
- RoadCraft Demo – 12,599 players
- Gothic 1 Remake – Demo (Nyras Prologue) – 10,222 players
- The First Berserker: Khazan Demo – 4,439 players
- Bongo Cat Demo – 3,886 players
- Solarpunk Demo – 3,728 players
Initially, spectators have been drawn to try out the Mecha BREAK demo after watching its Game Mode trailer during The Game Awards in December. Reaching a player count of over 315,000, no other game has managed such high activity thus far, making this multiplayer mech shooter a highly anticipated title. Seasun Games have skillfully created an immersive environment where players can modify their mechs and engage in intense ground and air combat against massive war machines.
Approximately 10,000 Steam users are finding great appeal in games such as “Fellowship,” “RoadCraft,” and the “Gothic 1 Remake.” If you decide to give these games a try, you’ll quickly understand why they’re so popular. Chief Rebel’s “Fellowship” is a multiplayer online dungeon adventure (MODA) that flourishes in its fantasy realm teeming with endless bosses and a focus on team strategy and cooperation. Saber Interactive’s “RoadCraft,” on the other hand, is a physics-based automobile simulation game set on a construction site, where you have the tools to rebuild roads and bridges damaged by weather. Lastly, Alkimia Interactive’s “Gothic 1 Remake” brings back the beloved action RPG from 2001, transporting players to the Valley of the Mines, an expansive open world filled with creatures, fellow travelers, and countless other adventures.
Completing the team are characters such as “The First Berserker: Khazan“, “Bongo Cat“, and “Solarpunk“. These characters have been captivating countless players this week. Some may recognize Neople’s hardcore action RPG “Khazan” as the game has recently released a demo on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, which was popular among fans of Soulslikes who seek the thrill derived from swift-moving gameplay. On the other hand, we have Macel Zurawka’s “Bongo Cat“, a game based on the well-known internet meme. In this laidback simulation title, your objective is to assist Bongo Cat in acquiring more hats. Lastly, “Solarpunk” is a survival farming simulation set across a world of floating islands where you (and your friends) can roam, collect items, construct buildings, cultivate crops, and craft gadgets.
