Stedman Pearson, singer of BRIT-winning Five Star, dies aged 60

I’m deeply saddened to share that Stedman Pearson, a singer whose voice brought me joy during the ’80s as part of the legendary group Five Star, passed away at the tender age of 60. His music will forever remain etched in my heart and the memories of many who loved his artistry.

It was shared on social media by multiple friends of his that he had passed away, according to the Daily Mail.

Back in 1986, the band Five Star enjoyed a series of successful songs, one of which was “Rain or Shine”. This track climbed all the way to the second spot on the music charts.

Additional songs were also featured, such as “Can’t Wait Another Second,” “Make Time for Me,” “Keep Away from My World” and “The Lightest Caress.

In 1983, the group known as Five Star was established by Pearson together with his siblings Delroy, Lorraine, Deniece, and Doris. They swiftly gained fame and recognition across households, recognized for their coordinated outfits and meticulously planned dance performances.

In 1987, the group took home a BRIT Award in the category of Best Group, outdoing acts such as Pet Shop Boys and Eurythmics.

In awe, I found myself appreciating the nomination of “Silk & Steel” as the best album contender. Yet, the night belonged to Dire Straits and their masterpiece, “Brothers in Arms.

In 2001, the band became a trio with Deniece and Lorraine continuing to perform with Stedman.

In 2012, they reassembled as a quintet, including Doris and Delroy, but Lorraine decided to step down from the band at the end of the year.

Tributes have been flooding in for the late star following the sad news of his passing.

Jaden Cornelius, a talented musician, expressed on X: “I woke up to hear about the death of my friend… He was one of the kindest and most delightful individuals I’ve encountered… an exceptional dancer with an infectious enthusiasm for life… You had a significant impact on my life, and you will be deeply missed!

David P Perlmutter expressed: “I’m deeply saddened to learn about the demise of Stedman Pearson from Five Star! I had the pleasure of meeting him and the band many years ago at a spa. They were incredibly humble individuals. Farewell, Stedman. He seemed timeless in age.
