The well-liked PS5 game, Stellar Blade, is planning to transition to personal computers towards the end of 2025, and it seems that portable gamers will also have a chance to enjoy it.
The recent financial report from Shift Up, as shared on GamingOnLinux, emphasizes their plans to tailor the game for devices akin to modern gaming handhelds, such as the Steam Deck and the ROG Ally, which were previously referred to as UMPC (Ultra-Mobile Personal Computer).
The information comes from the Q&A portion of said earnings report:
“Q.2: What are the expected results of PC version, and why?
In the gaming market for AAA titles, computers (PCs) hold a larger share compared to consoles. Consequently, we anticipate that the performance of the PC version will surpass that of the console version. We’re specifically monitoring trends like the substantial growth of the single-player action game sector within the Asian video game industry.
After studying both well-received and less successful console exclusives that have been ported to PC, we’re working hard to launch our game in a manner designed for ongoing success within the PC gaming market. This involves optimizing performance, enhancing user experience, creating additional content, and implementing marketing strategies specific to Shift Up. Notably, we aim to optimize the game to guarantee smooth gameplay, even on UMPC (Steam Deck) devices.
Although the Steam Deck has achieved significant success, it occasionally seems that developers prioritize console or PC owners when releasing major games, leaving handheld users feeling somewhat overlooked. Granted, there are constraints related to the hardware, but it’s encouraging to hear a developer acknowledging handhelds as a priority instead of an afterthought in the gaming industry.
It appears that the recently released PC version of the PlayStation exclusive game, Spider-Man 2, wasn’t optimized for handheld devices, given the performance issues it encountered during its initial release on PC. Handheld devices, being less powerful than their desktop counterparts, struggle with the game’s demands even more.
What catches my attention in the quote is that they’ve examined both thriving and struggling instances of console exclusives made available on PC. Gamers on PC can sometimes have unique expectations compared to console players, who often just want to download a game, launch it, and find it functioning smoothly. However, for PC gamers, there are extra considerations such as mouse and keyboard controls, Ultrawide monitors, high frame rates, and other factors that come into play.
Observing here, it seems Stellar Blade has garnered quite the attention on the PlayStation 5 so far. If Shift Up manages to deliver an exceptional PC version, it could potentially lead to a significant success for them.
