What Is Stadium?
In this new stadium setup, a thrilling best-of-seven, multi-round competition takes place. Two teams of five engage in intense battles within dynamic arenas that continuously change. What makes it unique? It offers a third-person perspective, empowers characters with transformative abilities, and equips them with an arsenal of items capable of shifting the game’s outcome.
Initially, 17 characters will be available for play, with additional ones added each season. In each match, you’ll select one character using a team composition of 1 Tank, 2 Damage, and 2 Support roles. After each round, you’ll enhance your abilities with Powers, which can significantly alter gameplay, and spend Stadium Cash in the Armory to improve your equipment. These features ensure that every character remains unique and customizable throughout the gameplay experience.
Gear Up in the Armory
At the start of each round, you’ll visit the Armory, a place where strategy intertwines with possibilities. Here, you can utilize your accumulated Stadium Cash to enhance your gear by purchasing Items and activating Powers at crucial moments (free on rounds 1, 3, 5, and 7).
Items are classified into Common, Rare, and Epic categories, each enhancing your weapons, abilities, or survivability. The majority of these items are usable by all characters, while some are unique to specific heroes. Simultaneously, you can carry up to six items at a time. If adjustments to your build are necessary, you have the option to swap them out instantly without delay.
Instead of powers, let’s refer to them as “ability modifiers.” These modifiers significantly change the way your character performs on the battlefield. For example, Reinhardt might throw fire-lava instead of his regular attacks, or Kiriko could create clones to confuse opponents. Unlike skills that require cash, these ability modifiers are chosen beforehand and cannot be changed once selected, so choose them carefully.
As a gamer, I’m sometimes stuck on choosing the right path for my hero. Luckily, the game provides me with Example Builds, which are like two suggested routes tailored for each character. These builds strategically combine Powers and Items that work well together. For beginners, they offer a reliable starting point, while experienced players can use them as a launchpad for their creative theorycrafting.
Keep following along, as we delve more thoroughly into the meta-construction aspect of Items and Abilities in our next analysis.
Earn and Spend Stadium Cash
As a dedicated stadium spectator, you’ll kick off each match with a starting balance of 3,500 Stadium Bucks, which grows over time thanks to your personal and team achievements. Knock out opponents, accomplish goals, and rack up kills to fatten your wallet.
Struggling to keep up? Don’t sweat it—bonuses will be given for defeating high-scoring opponents. Take down a marked opponent, and you’ll pocket some of the prize money. With extra cash, you’ll gain entry to better equipment and more intricate tactical choices.
Battle Across Global Arenas
The stadium includes nine unique maps designed by hand, drawing inspiration from the fundamental gameplay mechanics of Control, Push, and Clash modes. Each map has been reimagined with novel rules and layouts, offering a mix of the familiar and completely new playfields. Here’s how each mode is transformed within Stadium:
The stadium boasts nine custom-made maps inspired by the core mechanics of Control, Push, and Clash game modes. Each map has been revamped with unique rules and layouts, combining elements that are both recognizable and entirely fresh. This is a breakdown of how each mode evolves in Stadium:
- Clash: Fight for three objective points. Win two to take the round.
- Control: A single, speed-boosted round. Capture fast, win faster.
- Push: Condensed layouts and half-distance barricades make for quicker, punchier matches.
As future upgrades introduce new maps and game modes, Stadium guarantees an ever-changing, dynamic battlefield for competition.
A New Angle on Overwatch
Due to its capacity for disorder, powerful enhancements, and uncertain battlefields, the Stadium requires a keen understanding of the situation. Therefore, it initially sets to a view from above or outside, known as third-person perspective, granting you a wider vantage point of the action unfolding.
You have the ability to customize your gameplay with various visual enhancements such as modifying the field of view, adding reload cues, and providing line-of-sight warnings. If you prefer a traditional gaming experience, you can effortlessly return to first-person perspective whenever you wish.
Climb the Stadium Ranks
The stadium establishes an independent competitive ranking system. At the start of each season, every player is placed in the Beginner’s Division, from where they can ascend through various divisions and leagues as they accumulate victories.
As you progress, anticipate stiffer competition ahead, along with a higher chance of losing games. However, the benefits make it all worthwhile.
Each season, top-tier players can gain access to exceptional skins, unique weapon versions, and competitive points. The sixteenth season starts off with a boom: achieve the All-Star League in any role to earn the premiere All-Stars Juno Epic Skin.
This week, we’ll be providing a comprehensive overview of the ranked rewards and progression system. Stay tuned!
