Stephen Graham and Adolescence

Stephen Graham and Adolescence

As a movie reviewer with a strong background in crime dramas and a deep appreciation for innovative storytelling, I am thrilled to share my initial thoughts on Netflix’s upcoming production, “Adolescence.” With its impressive cast led by Stephen Graham, Ashley Walters, Erin Doherty, Owen Cooper, Faye Marsay, Christine Tremarco, Mark Stanley, Jo Hartley, and Amélie Pease, this series promises a gripping exploration of a family’s world turned upside down.

Netflix revealed that the upcoming crime drama, titled “Adolescence” (tentative name), will be filmed in a single, continuous take in real-time. The production will star renowned actors Stephen Graham (“Boiling Point,” “Bodies”), Ashley Walters (“Top Boy”), and Erin Doherty (“The Crown”).

In his television debut with a prominent role, Owen Cooper teams up with Faye Marsay (known for “Game of Thrones”), Christine Tremarco (“The Responder”), Mark Stanley (“Happy Valley”), Jo Hartley (“After Life”), and new acting talent Amélie Pease. The production of this series is a collaboration between Warp Films, Matriarch Productions, and Plan B for Netflix.

During adolescence, the peaceful life of a family is disrupted when their 13-year-old son, Jamie Miller (Owen Cooper), is accused and charged with the tragic murder of a teenage girl who attends his school. Stephen Graham portrays the role of Jamie’s father, Eddie Miller, while Ashley Walters takes on the character of Detective Inspector Luke Bascombe. Erin Doherty joins the cast as Briony Ariston, the clinical psychologist assigned to work with Jamie.

During the present time, Adolescence is being shot as a four-part series in the United Kingdom. This project is under the guidance of director Philip Barantini. An intriguing aspect of this production is that each episode is captured in one continuous take, keeping the audience fixed on the primary characters and their compelling stories as they unfold live on screen.

During their adolescent years, Stephen Graham and Philip Barantini reconnect for a new collaboration. Previously, they worked together on the BAFTA and BIFA-nominated film “Boiling Point,” known for its single continuous shot (you can read our review ). The series is penned by Graham and multiple award-winner Jack Thorne (“The Swimmers,” “Joy”). Executive production duties are handled by Mark Herbert and Emily Feller of Warp Films, Stephen Graham and Hannah Walters for Matriarch Productions, Jack Thorne for One Shoe Films, Phil Barantini for It’s All Made Up, and Jeremy Kleiner, Dede Gardner, and Nina Wolarsky for Plan B Entertainment.
