Stephen Graham Moved to Tears by Bruce Springsteen’s Emotional Text

Following his roles in “A Thousand Blows” and “Adolescence,” Stephen Graham is set to appear next in “Deliver Me from Nowhere,” the upcoming Bruce Springsteen biopic featuring Jeremy Allen White.

In the movie, it’s Graham who portrays Douglas, Bruce Springsteen’s dad, with Scott Cooper as the director. Recently, Graham shared insights about how The Boss reacted emotionally to his acting depiction.

In a special milestone for Soundtracking with Edith Bowman, reaching its 500th episode, I found myself immersed in the spoken words of none other than Bruce Springsteen’s audiobook. This preparation not only ignited my passion but also subtly influenced my interpretation of Douglas, a character I portrayed. The essence of Springsteen’s storytelling seeped into my performance, enriching it with a depth and emotion that resonated deeply within me.

In a discussion with Bruce, Graham asked, “Don’t you notice that when you talk about your father in your book, there’s a shift in your tone and you adopt a certain character?” To which Bruce responded, “Is that so?

When you asked, I replied with a simple ‘Yeah’. What I plan to do is essentially copy the sound and the personality you portray, and use it to craft my own unique character.

Following Graham’s captivating performance during a scene, Springsteen sent him the most beautiful messages he had ever received.

Graham remarked, “I’m fortunate to act alongside Jeremy Allen. Working with him is akin to collaborating with Al Pacino and Robert De Niro from their prime. He’s simply outstanding; he’s incredible, even remarkable. But what truly sets him apart is his kind-hearted nature.

I was genuinely invested in that heartwarming moment we filmed together, it was truly enchanting. However, duty called, and I needed to catch a flight. So, in a rush, I peeled off the makeup and dashed to the airport, all while receiving a text message.

Graham stated: “His message simply read, ‘I am incredibly grateful. Incidentally, my father has recently passed, and reading your words made me feel like I saw him again today. Your kindness gave me a cherished memory.’ Reading this brought tears to my eyes, do you understand what I’m saying? Goodness gracious. It was touching beyond words.

In Addition, the Cast of “Deliver Me from Nowhere” includes Jeremy Strong, Odessa Young, Paul Walter Hauser, Gaby Hoffmann, Johnny Cannizzaro, Harrison Gilbertson, Marc Maron, David Krumholtz, and Chris Jaymes.

The debut of Graham’s series titled “Adolescence” has received both critical praise and massive audience interest, shattering viewing records in the United Kingdom during its initial week on air and achieving international success.
