Sterling K. Brown’s New Hulu Thriller Series Surprise Drops First Episode

Ahead of schedule, Hulu prematurely launched the initial episode of Sterling K. Brown’s new show titled “Paradise“. This drama marks Brown’s reunion with Dan Fogelman, the creator of “This Is Us“, offering an intense narrative revolving around murder in a peaceful town. Originally scheduled for release on Tuesday, January 28th, Hulu surprised its subscribers by airing the first episode on Sunday night. Instead of premiering all the first three episodes on the 28th as planned, only the second and third will be shown initially, with subsequent episodes to be rolled out weekly. The positive reception may have encouraged Hulu to expedite the series’ schedule.

Paradise”

“The storyline of ‘Paradise’ seems straightforward, as it is set in a peaceful, affluent neighborhood populated by influential figures worldwide. However, the calmness is shattered when an appalling murder takes place and a tense investigation ensues. The murder victim is revealed to be none other than the former President of the United States, Cal Bradford, portrayed by James Marsden. Sterling K. Brown stars as Xavier Collins, the President’s head of security, who finds himself under intense scrutiny as the prime suspect in the President’s death.

It’s not unprecedented for a streaming series like Paradise to unexpectedly release episodes ahead of its original premiere date, as Amazon Prime Video has done with the early releases of The Boys and its spinoff Gen V. The second trailer for Paradise intensifies the intrigue as ex-President Cal Bradford introduces Xavier Collins into his inner circle, potentially exposing some of the nation’s most hidden secrets. This association makes Collins a primary suspect in the President’s death, given that he was the last person to see the President alive.

Paradise” delves into that narrative, yet it’s more than just that – it’s about how individuals handle crises, finding a path forward when everything seems uncertain. It’s about adapting to change and learning to cope with loss, creating a new normal. Interestingly, Brown mentioned that the protagonist had a complex relationship with the president, who was both his employer and friend. However, this friendship might not have been as strong at the time of his demise, which is why he’s also involved in the story.

In addition to Viola Davis, the series “Paradise” features Julianne Nicholson, Sarah Shahi, Nicole Brydon Bloom, Aliyah Mastin, and Percy Daggs IV. The executive producers for this show include Dan Fogelman, Sterling K. Brown, John Requa, Glenn Ficarra, John Hoberg, Jess Rosenthal, and Steve Beers.
