As a long-time WWE fan who has witnessed the rise and fall of countless wrestling legends, I must say that WrestleMania 40 was nothing short of spectacular. The main event between Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes was an epic battle that brought back memories of Avengers: Endgame’s climactic showdown. It was heartwarming to see the legends of yesteryear hit the ring, and I must admit, I shed a tear when The Undertaker made his grand entrance to save the day.
In April, the equivalent of “Avengers: Endgame” in professional wrestling took place, which was the main event at WWE WrestleMania 40. This match saw Roman Reigns, the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, battling against Cody Rhodes. To help the underdog, Cody Rhodes, several legends from the past stormed the ring to even the odds against The Bloodline. Jey Uso eliminated Jimmy Uso from the fight, John Cena stopped Solo Sikoa, but a tired Seth Rollins, who had already wrestled twice that weekend, was unable to prevent Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s assault.
Luckily for me, the light side still had an ace in its hand – the resonant clang of the legendary gong reverberated through Lincoln Financial Field, heralding The Undertaker’s entrance who then delivered a crushing chokeslam to The Final Boss.
Steve Austin Was “Close” to WrestleMania 40 Cameo
As WWE WrestleMania 40 approached, there was a widely discussed hypothesis that “Stone Cold” Steve Austin might fill in for The Undertaker’s role, given their past rivalry with The Rock. This theory suggested that Austin would deliver a final Stunner to The Rock as a callback to their history.
On the show “Unlikely,” Adrian Hernandez was told by the Texas Rattlesnake that it nearly happened, but his appearance at WWE WrestleMania 40 didn’t come to fruition in the end.
Austin stated, “It was almost there, and they definitely tried to connect with me,” he shared. “We exchanged words, but my spouse and I had some personal matters that prevented us from going to Philadelphia at that moment. However, I must say, I regret missing Mania, and goodness gracious, Philadelphia was a great place for me in the past, and I’m grateful for those fans.”
Austin made his latest appearance at WWE WrestleMania 38, emerging from retirement for a bout against Kevin Owens. On the second evening of the event, he reappeared to deliver one final Stunner to his longtime adversary, Vince McMahon.
Concerning his WWE prospects, Austin hinted yet again that the location of WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas makes it a more convenient journey for him.
“[I] didn’t manage to attend that specific event, but this year’s WrestleMania is happening in Las Vegas,” Austin explained. “A while ago, during an interview, I mentioned, ‘You know, that’s about 400 miles. It’s almost like we’re already here, just a stone’s throw away,'” he added. “I’m planning to drive back to Reno in my vehicle soon.” He hopes to attend this year’s event, and if Cody Rhodes needs assistance, he’ll be there.
