When questioned about his feelings upon reading the scripts for season 5, he expressed: “I believe it felt like a heavy burden finally being removed. Often, we underestimate the tension that comes with developing something from such a distant past, without having a clear end point in mind.
After completing the entire script, it felt as if a powerful, enveloping light encircled everyone involved in the production. It brought back memories of family, and being on set for the finale was undeniably emotional.
It’s a mix of sadness and excitement – there’s a great deal of sadness since many of us will deeply miss it, but our enthusiasm is sky-high as we’re approaching the final stages of filming.
Later on, Matarazzo disclosed that he along with the entire cast had only recently been given the script for the final episode. This implies that they began shooting new episodes without prior knowledge of how the series would conclude.
He mentioned that during production, they hadn’t completely read through the script yet, which was equally surprising because they were shooting a season where the ending wasn’t known in advance. Now that the situation has changed, it seems like this upcoming season will be less stressful and more enjoyable since they can concentrate on each other, spending quality time together, and having fun.
I believe the reason this series is enjoyable to watch is because we all enjoy making it. When we’re having a great time during filming, it seems to translate onto the screen.

In a recent interview, Gaten Matarazzo hinted at the possibility of reprising his role beyond the final season. He didn’t shut the door on the idea entirely, leaving us hopeful for one of the long-discussed spin-offs. Fingers crossed, fellow fans!
He expressed his interest in finding out, possibly, whether there’s a sequel beyond season 5, should any of us reach that stage. If so, he’d be keen to discover how the character Dustin develops into a 30-year-old.
