In an exciting development, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has secured two high-profile actors for Season 3 – Jamie Campbell Bower from Stranger Things and Eddie Marsan from Ray Donovan. Bower, currently portraying the villainous Vecna in Hawkins, Indiana, is set to switch sides, with reports suggesting he will play a noble knight in the upcoming season. Marsan, fresh off his role in Heartstopper, has been cast in a recurring part that requires him to adopt a Scottish accent, sparking fan theories he might portray a dwarf character. Production for Season 3 is already underway, and filming is anticipated to start shortly.
The specifics about this casting update remain confidential, with current information derived primarily from acting audition notices in Hollywood. The character played by Bower, referred to as Arlen by the casting team, does not correspond to any significant characters we’re expecting in The Rings of Power. He is portrayed as a noble, good-looking knight, leading some to ponder if he might be a potential romantic interest for Galadriel.
In the meantime, Marsan’s character is referred to as Dromm in secret. It’s been reported that the script specified he has a brother and should convincingly portray a Scottish accent, similar to the one used for dwarves in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings movies, which is also used in The Rings of Power. Since this role appears multiple times, it remains uncertain how significant its impact on the story will be.
Bower, who has been garnering attention due to his past remarks regarding portraying villains, is now making a significant shift in his career. Known for depicting the younger version of Gellert Grindelwald in both the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts series, he is now stepping into the pivotal antagonist role in the final season of Stranger Things. In a recent discussion at MegaCon in Orlando, Florida, Bower disclosed his intention to pursue roles other than villains moving forward, expressing concerns about the psychological impact these characters have had on him. He has even discussed this matter with his therapist.
He mentioned that we had been dealing with some challenges, to which he suggested, “It’s crucial that you take time for yourself when working in the future.” Responding to him, I said, “To tell you the truth, I don’t think I’ll be taking on another antagonist role anytime soon. It’s quite taxing, I assure you.
If actor Bower takes on a new romantic role alongside Galadriel, it might be for the character of Celeborn, who eventually marries her and becomes her husband. In J.R.R. Tolkien’s books, Galadriel and Celeborn are already wed by the time the Rings of Power are crafted, and they have a daughter named Celebrían. Since Celeborn is from the noble family of the elves of Doriath, he could be fittingly described as a high-born knight. However, it’s important to note that their homeland was destroyed in an earlier war against Sauron and Morgoth. Celeborn will play a significant role in the upcoming conflicts, as well as in the main narrative. In the film trilogy, Celeborn is portrayed by Marton Csokas.
As a passionate movie-goer who can’t wait to dive back into the captivating world of Middle-earth, I’m excited that The Rings of Power Season 3 is about to start filming soon. However, we don’t have a release date yet for this season, but I’ve got my fingers crossed! What’s even more thrilling is that the series has already been greenlit for a fourth season. If you haven’t seen the first two seasons yet, they’re streaming now on Prime Video. And if you prefer to read J.R.R. Tolkien’s books in print, digital, or audiobook format, they’re all readily available. Let’s continue this magical journey together!
