Strictly Come Dancing viewing figures confirmed as ratings drop

As a dedicated fan who has been following Strictly Come Dancing since its inception, I must say that this year’s 20th anniversary season has started off with quite a bang! The first live show was truly a spectacle to behold, and the performances were nothing short of extraordinary.

For the opening live performance of this year’s 20th anniversary season of Strictly Come Dancing, the viewership ratings during overnight broadcast reached 6.6 million people at its highest point.

It also saw an average viewership of 6.4 million viewers, with an audience share of 49.4 per cent.

6.6 million people tuned in for the peak viewership this time, which is lower compared to last year’s 7.3 million. Interestingly, the highest number of viewers ever recorded for the show happened back in 2020, when a live event attracted a record-breaking audience of 10.2 million viewers.

To give you a sense, during the initial event held earlier this month when pairs were paired together, about 5.5 million viewers tuned in throughout its broadcast.

In the first week’s competition, it was JB Gill and Amy Dowden who took the lead with a remarkable score of 31, dancing a captivating Waltz to “When I Need You” by Leo Sayer.

In the show’s history, Hadland and Coppola’s Quickstep dance set a remarkable record by achieving the highest score during the first week of the competition, making it the top-scoring Quickstep ever shown on the series.

Speaking about the dance, Motsi Mabuse commented: “Indeed, this promises to be an exciting year with such a powerful and well-executed Quickstep. The pace was swift, the rhythm spot on, the hold excellent, and the timing impeccable. Well done!
