As a seasoned Strictly Come Dancing enthusiast with over two decades of watching under my belt, I must say that JB Gill and Lauren Oakley’s Viennese Waltz was nothing short of enchanting. The grace, elegance, and sheer joy they exuded on the dance floor were reminiscent of Mary Poppins herself floating above Cherry Tree Lane.
In the opening of the Strictly Come Dancing 2024 finale, JB Gill and Lauren Oakley danced a captivating Viennese Waltz to “Let’s Go Fly a Kite,” leaving the judges absolutely thrilled.
“It was amazing,” said Anton Du Beke. “I loved it, better than before.
“I’d like to see that three times, please.”
Motsi Mabuse praised their “beautiful footwork”, adding, “You were light, like you were flying”.
She noted, “That’s how a Strictly Come Dancing finale begins,” and Shirley Ballas expressed that their performance was so delightful it caused her to discard her critical “technique lens” and just savor the dance like the viewers would.
But what did the exacting Craig Revel Horwood have to say?
“I’m not happy,” he said. “I couldn’t find anything wrong with it.”
“Grace, elegance, quality,” he added.
Of course, remarks of that kind undeniably boosted JB and Lauren’s performance during their rendition of Mary Poppins, surpassing their initial effort.
And it also proved to be a momentous moment for Craig, who had awarded his 100th Strictly ten.
Claudia Winkleman, one of the hosts, remarked, “This is quite unusual. We’ve been anticipating this moment for quite a while now.” She added that it took “20 years” and “22 seasons” to get here.
It’s a Christmas miracle.
Joining JB and Lauren in the competition for the glitter ball trophy are three additional pairs: Chris McCausland with Dianne Buswell, Tasha Ghouri with Aljaž Škorjanec, and Sarah Hadland with Vito Coppola.
