Strictly Come Dancing’s Sarah Hadland burst into tears trying on costume

As a long-time admirer of Strictly Come Dancing and a fervent fan of the glamour, glitz, and sequins that come with it, I can’t help but be absolutely thrilled for this year’s contestant, Sarah Hadland. Her emotional reaction to her very first costume is nothing short of heartwarming, as it reminds us all that even the simplest things can hold immense value when they are a part of something extraordinary.

Anticipating the return of Strictly Come Dancing to fill up our weekends, the upcoming season promises a wealth of exciting moments, such as the much-awaited stunning outfits on display.

Every week on the dance competition show, you’d typically find the famous competitors adorned with jewelry, sequins, and other fancy items, putting on dazzling acts right on the dance floor.

However, it appeared that the first costume worn by Miranda was the one that moved Sarah Hadland deeply.

In a conversation with TopMob magazine, Hadland reflected on some of her most memorable moments during her Strictly journey so far.

She shared that it was astonishing; she had become emotional upon donning her costume for the initial time, simply because she hadn’t expected to feel such a strong connection with it.

The first time I encountered it, it was actually three pieces of purple Lycra fabric held together with six safety pins, and I thought to myself, ‘This is quite simple.’ My mind wondered, ‘How will they make it more elegant or sophisticated?’

She added: “Incredibly, I was chatting while being dressed in it, only to find out later that everything was completed. When I spun around, it became quite an emotional instant, as I had never before adorned something so breathtakingly beautiful. It took me by surprise.

“I wasn’t expecting it. I just burst into tears. I was like, ‘This is so beautiful.’

As an actor, you’re not only a performer but also a collaborator. However, when it comes to your character, you play a significant role in shaping its appearance and essence. You have a clear understanding of how it will manifest on stage or screen.

Instead of asking, “How do you see this character looking?”, people might ask, “What does this character look like to you?” Regarding your characters, you’ve often provided significant details or characteristics.

Hadland mentioned, ‘Given that the team performs this task annually, it’s as if you say, ‘Please do what you always do.’ But this time, it exceeded all my expectations.’

In simpler terms, you could say, “It’s the same as with my makeup. I have two Lisas working on me – Lisa Armstrong does my makeup, and Lisa Davey takes care of my hair. As a big fan, it feels like everything else is going to be fantastic from now on.

That’s exactly why I’m here: for the sparkle! I imagine myself standing at the edge of the stage, while they keep throwing glitter at me from wheelbarrows, covering me entirely. Then, Vito could spin me around. That’s a dream scenario for me.

Among the star-studded cast I found myself in this latest production, I’m proud to say I share the stage with familiar faces like Tasha Ghouri and Pete Wicks from the small screen, comedian Chris McCausland who always makes me laugh, JLS member JB Gill, and the iconic singer Toyah Willcox. Quite an impressive line-up, if I may say so myself!

In response to being included in this year’s cast, Hadland expressed her enthusiasm by stating: “I am thrilled to be a part of such a renowned show as it marks its 20th anniversary. I can hardly wait for the glamour, sparkle, and shine – and I hope to make those tuning in from home proud!
