As I watched Sarah Hadland and Vito Coppola gracefully dance to Hedwig’s Theme on Strictly Come Dancing, I couldn’t help but feel a profound sense of admiration for their heartfelt tribute to the late, great Dame Maggie Smith. Having been an ardent fan of her work since my early days at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry (just kidding!), I was moved by Hadland’s passion for her idol and the dedication they put into their dance.
The viewers of Strictly Come Dancing were left astounded after Sarah Hadland and Vito Coppola’s performance of the Viennese Waltz, which was a tribute to the late Dame Maggie Smith.
Through footage captured during their rehearsals, Hadland conveyed her sense of pride in performing as Professor McGonagall in the dance inspired by Harry Potter.

Coppola expressed that she particularly admired this professor, as they decided to honor a deceased actress by dedicating the dance to her memory.
To the tune of Hedwig’s Theme from Harry Potter, the duo danced so gracefully that they earned a well-deserved standing ovation from the audience in the studio. Judge Anton Du Beke commended their performance as “a beautifully executed dance”.
During their dance performance, all judges were sporting wide grins from one ear to another as Craig Revel Horwood expressed his delight by saying he “enjoyed” it.
In a different phrasing, fellow judge Motsi Mabuse expressed her appreciation by saying: “I adored it! For me, that was the best moment of the evening. It was nostalgic, and you perfectly encapsulated the mood. I can see that you’re tough on yourself unnecessarily, but remember, you’re incredibly talented.
I’m saddened to share that in September, I lost the esteemed Dame Maggie Smith, who left us at the venerable age of 89. Her beloved sons, Toby Stephens and Chris Larkin, confirmed this heartbreaking news through a shared statement.
