Strictly’s Chris McCausland Cha Cha praised as “one of the most extraordinary things I’ve ever seen”

As a seasoned cinema-goer with a penchant for reality television, I must say that Chris McCausland‘s debut on Strictly Come Dancing was nothing short of electrifying! Being blind, he not only conquered the Cha Cha but also executed some impressive lifts and moves. The standing ovation he received from the audience and the judges was well-deserved indeed.

Everyone stood up, impressed by the act – and it wasn’t hard to see why! Comedian Chris McCausland made a splash on the Strictly Come Dancing dance floor as he executed his debut Cha Cha.

With dance partner Dianne Buswell, McCausland, despite being visually impaired, danced energetically to “Twist and Shout” by The Beatles. Not only did he maintain a radiant smile throughout the performance, but also executed impressive lifts and moves in sync with Buswell.

Following its completion, McCausland received a swift standing ovation from the crowd, with head judge Shirley Ballas joining in the applause.

At the judges’ station, Craig Revel Horwood began critiquing, yet Motsi Mabuse interjected once more, expressing her differing views on McCausland’s posture and leg positions.

It was evident that both Mabuse and Ballas were thoroughly pleased with McCausland’s performance during their first week together. Mabuse exclaimed, “I truly believe you could feel the excitement in the studio, as you seemed to be the one who embodied the energy and gave your all on the dancefloor. I couldn’t sense any nervousness from you. You managed to bring joy to the room, and I must say, your Cha Cha was fantastic – I loved it!

Moving towards Shirley, she admired McCausland’s ability to maneuver Buswell between his legs and expressed her feelings by saying, “To be honest, I’m both astonished and deeply moved – simply fantastic.

Later on, Anton Du Beke expressed: “Don’t you think it’s amazing? That’s one of the most astounding things I’ve witnessed throughout my entire lifetime.” He continued to compliment McCausland for skillfully maneuvering Buswell between his legs, acknowledging that it’s a move he personally steers clear of.

Although the performance didn’t secure the highest points of the evening, it still amounted to a total of 23, leaving plenty of scope for enhancements in the upcoming weeks. At present, no couples are bidding adieu to the show as the first episode doesn’t allow for public voting just yet.

In an interview with TopMob magazine, McCausland shared insights about his Strictly experience and being blind: “In that room one day when the crowd cheered and the music played, I couldn’t detect your presence. I could only guess where you might be.

In relation to our practice sessions, the comedian commented on Buswell, stating he could sense his movements nearby. Can you understand my meaning? However, once we were both in the same room, all traces of those sensations vanished entirely.

Buswell effortlessly handles everything with McCausland by her side, acknowledging that she’s essentially giving him dance lessons as an added perk. This collaboration is set to refine and enhance her own teaching abilities.

She said: “Even moving Chris into the right position so that he gets aware of how he should feel when he’s on that foot, or how his arms should feel, or even things he can relate to.”
