As a seasoned critic with over three decades of immersion in the world of dance and entertainment, I must say that the story of Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell in Strictly Come Dancing 2024 is one that resonates deeply with me. Having spent a significant portion of my life navigating the intricate world of sound and silence, I find myself empathizing with McCausland’s unique challenges as he embarks on this dance journey.
2024 participant Chris McCausland from Strictly Come Dancing has shared insights about the challenges he encountered during the premiere episode that was broadcast to audiences this past weekend.
During the start of Strictly, McCausland was teamed up with Dianne Buswell. As the celebrity competitors and their partners showcased a collective dance number, McCausland amused the crowd with his wit and stepped onto the dance floor for the initial time in this competition.
In an exclusive conversation with TopMob magazine, McCausland, who is visually impaired, disclosed that due to the studio’s noise, he couldn’t identify Dianne’s location.
The other day in that room filled with noise from the crowd and music, I couldn’t make out where you were because I didn’t realize it. I was simply making assumptions based on my guesses.
In the rehearsal space, Chris can pick up on her breathing sounds, helping him pinpoint her precise location. However, this ability seemed to elude him during the live performance.
While we’re rehearsing, it sounds like you’re shifting about nearby,” the comic remarked. “Are you getting my drift? However, once we’re in the same room, I utterly fail to perceive any of that.
Instead, McCausland and Buswell are well-equipped to navigate this learning experience. The professional dancer finds it intriguing, expressing that figuring out how to instruct McCausland has become quite engaging as the show progresses.
Every week, he manages to perform an amazing dance move that leaves the audience thrilled. They clearly appreciate it. It’s these types of moments that we should keep in mind and figure out how to make the most of them as they happen.
Buswell acknowledged that learning a fresh approach to instructing McCausland on dance moves feels like an additional advantage, and it will significantly enhance her teaching abilities.
“I can’t just rely on me doing it and somebody copying that,” she said.
Regardless, adjusting Chris’s placement to help him understand the sensations he should experience when standing on that specific foot, or the way his arms should feel, or even things he can personally connect with.
They’re definitely excited to hit the dance floor every week, as McCausland puts it, “We’re there to give it our all.
Check out the full interview with Chris and Dianne, available starting Tuesday, 17th September, in this week’s issue of TopMob.
Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday 21st September at 7pm on BBC One.
