As a follower of Strictly Come Dancing, I must say that tonight’s performance by Montell Douglas and Johannes Radebe was nothing short of inspiring. The emotional connection they shared during their dance to I’m Here from The Colour Purple was palpable, and it felt like we were all on this journey with them.
There wasn’t a dry eye in the Strictly ballroom tonight as Montell Douglas and Johannes Radebe danced their hearts out to I’m Here from The Colour Purple during Strictly Come Dancing‘s Musicals week.
After considering my experiences in the dance-offs during the past three shows, Montell acknowledged that recovering from these situations hasn’t been a walk in the park.
She explained to Johannes, “It’s similar to having a small chip on something, and you’re hoping it will crack eventually. Working tirelessly here in the studio, it can be challenging to realize that our efforts might not yield the desired results each week.
On her way to the dance floor, Montell shared that she intended to draw “inspiration” from the character Celie to discover her own inner “resilience”, and indeed, she achieved it!
After the dance concluded, a moved Montell had the audience standing for a well-deserved round of applause before receiving comments from the judges.
Craig Revel Horwood praised Montell, saying, ‘You had some truly remarkable instances.’ Specifically, I was captivated by the part where you executed the bust-out move and performed that hinged backbend. That was fantastic! Overall, there were many stunning moments.
Motsi Mabuse couldn’t help but shower Montell with compliments, appreciating the intricate dance moves he displayed in the Rumba. However, she acknowledged that these movements could prove “challenging” to execute effectively.
Shirley Ballas commented, ‘Your Rumba was extremely beautiful,’ while Anton Du Beke said, ‘I struggled inside as I watched your dance, seeing the details, but ultimately concluded that you deliberately chose to maintain calmness in your performance.’
I appreciate tranquility, but it’s challenging to find amidst the bustle, as it stirs strong emotions within me. I found that performance to be extremely moving and emotionally intense – exactly what this story aimed to evoke.
After earning a commendable 32 points, the duo showed signs of emotion in the Clauditorium post their act.
Viewers will have the decision to vote for their favourite performances once the show is over!
Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday 1st December at 7:20pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
