Strictly’s Nick Knowles returns to dancefloor with Craig’s Paddington 2 routine

As an ardent follower of Strictly Come Dancing for over two decades, I must say this season has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride. Tonight, we witnessed Nick Knowles defy all odds and grace the dancefloor once again after his injury setback. His performance was truly commendable, especially considering the limited rehearsal time.

Initially, due to an earlier injury, there were doubts about Nick Knowles’ ability to perform on tonight’s episode of Strictly Come Dancing. But towards the end of the week, it was officially announced that he and his dance partner Luba Mushtuk had been cleared to appear.

Tonight, on the 12th of October (Saturday), Nick re-entered the dance floor, however, owing to insufficient practice sessions, they were given permission to execute their Movie Week dance from last week’s performance, which they had been unable to do originally.

It was discovered that the dance performed was Charleston to Rain on the Roof from Paddington 2; interestingly, this particular dance was found to have a connection with one of the Strictly Come Dancing judges.

After the dance, Tess unveiled that Craig Revel Horwood had in fact created the routine displayed in Paddington 2. This information left Nick astonished and he exclaimed, “Oh, my word!

Craig emphasized that there was “absolutely no resemblance” between his initial rendition and Nick’s presentation, adding that Nick might have taken the opportunity to “unleash a bit more creativity and wildness” in his performance.

Despite this, there was praise from the judges, with Craig saying the character Nick showed was “fantastic”.

Motsi Mabuse commended Nick for dancing again after his injury, remarking that it required “great bravery”.

In a separate comment, Shirley Ballas commended the pair for their use of props, yet suggested that Nick’s upper body could have been given a bit more emphasis. On the other hand, Anton Du Beke deemed the dance as quite impressive.

Later, Nick acknowledged the valuable assistance provided by the physical therapists during his recuperation. Before they learned their evaluations, both Nick and Luba were given marks: Craig gave them a four, Motsi awarded them a six, Shirley gave them a five, and Anton also gave them a six.

This gave them a total of 21, landing them at the bottom of the leaderboard at the time.

Strictly Come Dancing 2024 continues on Saturdays and Sundays on BBC One and iPlayer.
