As a seasoned gamer who has traversed the vast landscapes of countless RPGs and savored the intricate narratives they weave, I must say, the announcement of Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter has sent my heart aflutter! The original game was a gem, albeit one that eluded me due to its limited Western release back in the day.
Earlier this year, it was revealed during a Nintendo Direct broadcast that Falcom is working on a remake of the initial Trails series game, known as Trails in the Sky. This marks the start of the long-running Trails saga.
The remake appeared astonishingly impressive in its concise teaser trailer, representing a complete 3D reconstruction of an outstanding RPG from the ground up. However, due to the abrupt nature of the announcement, fans found themselves lacking substantial details. A specific release date was not disclosed, and beyond Switch, no other platforms were explicitly confirmed.
It’s great news that we have an authentic announcement trailer for the project, titled “Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter.” This one is set for release on PlayStation 5 in 2025. What a relief!
In the Western regions, the publication of this game is handled by GungHo Online Entertainment, a noteworthy point. Since the release of Trails of Cold Steel 3 in 2019, NIS America has been the sole distributor for Falcom’s games across North America and Europe; however, that’s not the case with 1st Chapter as it is being published by a different company.
Back in 2004, I first dived into the world of Trails in the Sky on my trusty PC. A few years after that, folks in Japan got to enjoy it on their PSPs, but us Western gamers were left out in the cold. Fast forward to 2011, and finally, we could get our hands on this gem, but alas, it never made its way onto current-gen consoles.
Among the mainline Trails series, only the Trails in the Sky trilogy hasn’t been released on PlayStation 5 (PS5) or PlayStation 4 (PS4). With this remake, we now have a complete loop back to the original series.
