Suicide Squad Isekai Director Reveals DC's Main Request for the Anime

As a long-time fan of DC Comics and anime, I’m absolutely thrilled about the new anime adaptation of Suicide Squad, titled “Suicide Squad Isekai.” Having grown up reading and watching various interpretations of these beloved characters, I was excited to see how they would be brought to life in this unique and fantastical setting.

As an avid fan, I’m thrilled to share that the much-anticipated Suicide Squad Isekai is set to bring a fresh perspective to the iconic DC Comics villain team with an upcoming anime series this Summer. In an exclusive interview, the show’s director revealed the significant request made by DC during the project’s inception.

In the latest installment of “Suicide Squad Isekai,” coming out in full swing during the Summer, fans are intrigued by how the newly introduced villains engage with their magical realm. During an interview with Comic Book Resources, “Suicide Squad Isekai” director Eri Osada revealed that DC Comics specifically asked for a larger presence of the Joker in the anime. However, Osada explained that it was unlikely due to the nature of this series not being primarily focused on the Joker.

Suicide Squad Isekai: Why There’s Not Enough Joker

As a gamer and storyteller, I shared Osada’s dilemma. When told to include the Joker more in our anime project, I expressed my concerns. “I couldn’t do that,” I admitted, “as the story’s framework wouldn’t allow it, making our production feel too focused on the Joker.” Regarding adapting DC characters into anime, Osada confessed her apprehensions. “Given my expertise lies in Japanese comics, I fretted over the possibility of these new interpretations straying too far from how fans abroad envision these beloved characters.”

When it comes to Harley Quinn and the Joker in the context of anime and the Isekai genre, Osada pointed out their fitting qualities. Harley projects an air of fearlessness and remains true to herself no matter where she goes. The Joker, on the other hand, appears to have the freedom to do as he pleases regardless of his location.

If you’re interested in watching “Suicide Squad Isekai,” you can now stream both the Japanese and English versions of the anime on Max and Hulu during the Summer. With a total of ten episodes planned, this is an excellent opportunity for DC comic fans to discover the unique storyline.
