Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Drives 41 Percent Decline in Warner Bros.’ Games Revenue

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the latest financial report from Warner Bros. Discovery has left me rather concerned. The disappointing performance of “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” has undeniably taken its toll on the gaming revenue, a stark contrast to the success of last year’s “Hogwarts Legacy.”

Approximately half a year after its debut, Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has been significantly impacting WB Games’ income. The parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, recently disclosed their Q2 financial outcomes for the fiscal year ending March 31st, 2025, and reported a 41% decrease (excluding foreign exchange effects) in game revenue.

The main reason for this was the underwhelming performance of “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League,” which fell significantly short compared to last year’s hit, “Hogwarts Legacy.” In fact, CEO David Zaslav had previously noted the game’s poor performance in the company’s Q4 results, labeling it as “disappointing” and causing a $200 million loss in revenue.

In summary, Warner Bros. Discovery experienced a loss of approximately $10 billion during the quarter, despite generating nearly $9.7 billion in revenue. This significant loss was primarily due to a “non-cash goodwill impairment charge” of about $9.7 billion from their Networks segment. This charge occurred because the current market value is lower than the recorded value on their books, combined with ongoing weakness in the U.S. linear advertising market, uncertainties regarding affiliate and sports rights renewals, such as NBA contracts.

Prior to the release of their Q2 financial results, speculations had been circulating that the company might be contemplating selling a share of its gaming division. These rumors date back to 2022, but given the recent poor performance of this sector, Warner Bros. Discovery may now seriously consider this move. Keep an eye out for further developments in the meantime.
