Cousins Beach has always been messy.
This coming summer, the coastal town where Jenny Han’s “The Summer I Turned Pretty” book series is set – set to release its last season in July – could provide an unexpected dose of drama for its followers.
Han, aged 44, shared with Entertainment Weekly during a recent conversation [on March 31] that fans have certain facts and assumptions about the topic, but there’s also a lot they might believe they understand. He added, ‘I hope we can deliver some unexpected elements as well.’
Although Han didn’t disclose any future developments, this subtle hint increases the suspense in the Prime Video love triangle. The show resumed in 2023 for its second season, concluding with main character Belly (portrayed by Lola Tung) deciding to persist in her relationship with Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) rather than his brother and former flame Conrad (Christopher Briney).
It appears that the pair continues to thrive as we approach the third season, which features a minor time leap. This is reminiscent of the storyline in the third book titled “We’ll Always Have Summer“. By the end of her freshman year at college, Belly finds herself, much like before. Regarding their relationship with Jeremiah, Han hinted at numerous captivating scenes that will leave fans in awe.
Lola and Gavin work incredibly well together and found a wonderful harmony, as she explained. It promises to be a delightful spectacle for everyone to observe their dynamic.
Over the span of their two-year relationship, Conrad has gradually moved away from the couple, but rest assured, he remains a significant figure in the series. (Additionally, the novels hint that he is crucial to Belly’s affections.)
Though the TV series draws inspiration from Han’s novels, it does not shy away from adding its own artistic interpretations when adapting them to the small screen. Moreover, concerning the upcoming shocking plot twists, Tung confidently stated that such departures would always align with Han’s storytelling principles and never involve anything illogical for the narrative.
Jenny’s unique trait that I’ve always appreciated is her dedication to craft every season and decision based solely on enhancing the story,” she shared with Entertainment Weekly. “Everything revolves around the captivating universe she has built and providing both fans and us, as creators, something truly exceptional.
