The YouTube personality known as Super Eyepatch Wolf has built up a good deal of expertise in the world of anime. His journey began with the video titled “Why You Should Watch Hunter x Hunter,” which subsequently attracted millions of views from anime enthusiasts. Over time, he’s continued to produce videos centered around series like Berserk, Bleach, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Hajime no Ippo, Naruto, and others. In a recent interview with us at egmr.ru, the content creator discussed various topics, but one particularly notable point was his thoughts on the current state of the anime industry and how it could be improved.
During our conversation, John emphasized that the popularity of anime has never been greater, yet there are significant problems that need addressing. “I believe the financial success has never been higher, and more people are consuming anime than ever before. I wish that animators, studios, and creative individuals could experience some of this prosperity themselves. Recently, I watched a video by YouTuber Li Cree titled ‘I worked on Jujutsu Kaisen,’ and she brought up an alarming point: essentially, the cost of producing one episode of Family Guy is comparable to an entire season of Jujutsu Kaisen. This information leaves me feeling utterly bewildered.” Here’s a link to part one of Li Cree’s video below.
The Anime Industry Needs a Refresh
Eyepatch Wolf went on to express his ongoing appreciation for series such as One Piece, but emphasized that significant improvements are necessary within the industry. “Creatively, anime is doing well; we’re still seeing great and captivating content. For instance, One Piece is better than ever before. I just finished watching The Future Island Arc on Netflix, and it’s fantastic! If only the industry could improve in terms of supporting its workers and ending the practice of overworking them, or crunch. I hope they can receive fair compensation for their efforts.
The content creator explained that they appreciate the ’90s anime more than the anime from the 2010s, even though they acknowledge the quality productions like “Mob Psycho 100,” “Hunter x Hunter,” and “Kill la Kill” in the more recent era. They also pointed out that both periods have their share of poor-quality content but find that there is a significant amount of subpar anime currently being produced compared to the ’90s, with some works not worth mentioning due to their lack of quality.
