As a long-time Netflix subscriber and avid movie buff, I must say October is always a bittersweet month for me. On one hand, I eagerly anticipate the new titles joining the service every first of the month, but on the other, the inevitable departures of some beloved films never fail to disappoint. This year is no exception as we bid farewell to gems like “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” and “Sonic the Hedgehog.
Every month, streaming platforms such as Netflix encounter a blend of positive and negative updates. While they continue to add fresh content, they also announce which films and series will be departing from their library. Just like any other month, October brings this same mix for Netflix, and some highly anticipated titles are due to leave in the coming weeks.
As a passionate fan, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment as one of my favorite titles, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” is set to leave Netflix on October 2nd. This Illumination film was not just a massive box office hit in 2023, but it has also held a dominant position among the most-watched movies on Netflix throughout 2024. With “Mario” gracing the Global Netflix Top 10 Movies list for a whopping 20 weeks, I can understand why many families, like mine, will feel the sting of its departure.
It’s worth noting that some popular family films are departing from Netflix, such as “Sonic the Hedgehog”, which will be leaving on Halloween. Other notable movies parting ways with Netflix on October 31st include “Magic Mike”, “La La Land”, “World War Z”, and “The Expendables”.
