Ahoy there, fellow gamer matey! With over three decades of gaming under me belt, I can say with certainty that Sega’s latest addition to the Super Monkey Ball franchise, Banana Rumble, has been a delightful voyage so far. The recent release of guest characters like Knuckles and Tails has only added to the excitement, making me feel like a kid in a digital toy store again!
Last month saw the launch of Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble on Nintendo Switch, with Sega announcing plans for new content releases in the remainder of the year. Previously disclosed, these additions include guest characters from different Sega franchises, obtainable as paid content. A recently unveiled schedule reveals that Knuckles, Tails, and Amy will be accessible today (July 30th), while Axel from Crazy Taxi and Beat from Jet Set Radio are set for September. Additionally, the roadmap suggests upcoming free content: new multiplayer modes and stages!
The roadmap for Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble can be found below.
The multiplayer aspect of Super Monkey Ball has always played a significant role, and it’s pleasing to learn that Sega intends to enhance this feature further. However, they haven’t provided many details about the new game modes, so fans can only guess for now. The plan also hints at introducing more characters, some of which will be accessible through the digital deluxe edition, Sega Pass, or sold separately. It’s unclear who these characters might be, but there are numerous other popular Sega characters that could potentially be included. Interestingly, characters like Morgana from Persona 5 and Kazuma Kiryu from Yakuza/Like a Dragon appeared in Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania, yet to be announced for Banana Rumble.
1. In the current plan, Super Monkey Ball fans won’t find a launch on other platforms for now. The game Banana Rumble was made exclusive for Nintendo Switch, even though Banana Mania and Banana Blitz HD were available on Steam, PS4, and Xbox One. Sega mentioned in an interview with SiliconEra that the exclusivity decision was to ensure high-quality 16-player online competition. However, they did hint that other platforms might get the game if there’s sufficient demand. Judging by the roadmap, it seems the game won’t be coming to more platforms until at least 2025!
