If you’re into your mecha anime, chances are that you’ve heard of the Super Robot Wars franchise.
For a long time, this strategic role-playing game series has primarily been popular in Japan and other Asian regions, with little to no localization efforts targeting Western markets. As such, enthusiastic followers have had to purchase imported versions of the most recent installments for years.
This year is set to bring some major shifts, as confirmed by Bandai Namco. They’re planning a global launch in 2025 for the new addition to the Super Robot Wars series, simply named Super Robot Wars Y. In the past, we could only hope for such exciting times.

If you haven’t come across Super Robot Wars before, it essentially brings together multiple generations of robot manga and anime into one massive crossover. The games typically revolve around a unique narrative where the pilots and their colossal humanoid robots are thrust into an alternate scenario, compelled to team up against an overpowering menace.
In this game, you arrange your units on a grid before entering thrilling, turn-based battles that resemble scenes from action movies. It’s quite similar to a strategy RPG, but it boasts an abundance of explosions and laser rifles instead. Constructing the ultimate team comprising your preferred mechs is one of its main attractions.
