Milly Alcock, who plays Kara Zor-El in DC Studios’ upcoming movie “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow”, has announced that filming for the much-anticipated project has been completed. The actress revealed this tidbit during an interview on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”. This confirmation follows a previous statement by DC Studios co-head James Gunn, who informed fans that principal photography for “Supergirl” was wrapped up. With this move into post-production, the film takes a significant step closer to its cinematic release. Directed by Craig Gillespie, known for his work on “I, Tonya”, and written by Ana Nogueira, the movie now embarks on an extensive period where visual effects, sound, and final edits will be carefully put together.
On the show,” Alcock declared, “what we could interpret as me being Supergirl was stated. This affirms my character as Steel Woman without giving away too much. Along with Fallon, there was a bit of lighthearted conversation regarding the upcoming DCU film. Yet, she stood firm in keeping the precise story details about the movie concealed, showing respect for DC Studios’ vow of secrecy.

The film “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” takes inspiration from a comic book series with the same name, which gained prominence through the work of writer Tom King and artist Bilquis Evely. This particular storyline is recognized for its unique portrayal of Kara Zor-El, showcasing a hero molded by deep sorrow and a harsher perspective on the world, a depiction that Gunn has previously described as “more hardcore” compared to other representations of the character. As the co-head of DC Studios explains, Supergirl spent her formative years observing the destruction of her home on a shard of Krypton, a stark contrast to Superman’s upbringing, which will contribute to their distinct personalities. Furthermore, the comic tale follows Kara, alongside her superdog Krypto, on a cosmic quest for justice with a young alien girl, Ruthye Marye Knoll, imbuing the story with a distinctive space-western flair. Already leaked set photos for “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” suggest that the movie will deviate from the original material while preserving its emotional heart. The cast for “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” also includes Jason Momoa, who is expected to portray the Czarnian bounty hunter Lobo.
The DCU Will Make Its Theatrical Debut With Superman
Prior to Milly Alcock’s Supergirl soaring into action in 2026, the new DC Universe will debut on the big screen with the film Superman. Written and directed by James Gunn, this inaugural movie will present David Corenswet as the latest Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as the tenacious reporter Lois Lane. Superman is intended to serve as the foundation for the DCU’s upcoming cinematic saga, setting the overall mood and direction for the interconnected tales that follow. In this narrative, Clark Kent is already functioning as Superman while building his career as a journalist at the Daily Planet, omitting the Man of Steel’s origin story. Furthermore, the film aims to depict a Superman who advocates truth and compassion, even when those values appear out of sync with the world around him. Viewers will also witness Clark Kent managing his dual identity, harmonizing his Kryptonian heritage with his upbringing in Smallville, Kansas, under the care of his adoptive parents, Jonathan Kent (Pruitt Taylor Vince) and Martha Kent (Neva Howell).
Besides its main protagonist Superman, the series also features several beloved DC characters such as Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi), and Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Guy Gardner. This means that the storyline of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow takes place in a DC Universe where miraculous events are not entirely unexpected, creating an exciting environment for Kara Zor-El’s personal journey.
The movie titled “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” is set to take flight in cinemas on June 26, 2026. Prior to that date, the original hero, Superman, will make his appearance on the big screen on July 11, 2025.
