Filming for the upcoming DC Universe movie “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” has just begun, which means we’re getting closer to learning more about this exciting production – including casting announcements. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the movie has brought on board David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham as Kara Zor-El’s parents in the film. They join Milly Alcock (who plays Kara), Eve Ridley, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Jason Momoa (as Lobo) who were previously announced for the project.

View Urgent ForecastThe report mentions that Krumholtz and Beecham will play the roles of Kara’s parents, but it remains unclear which set of parents they will depict in the series. In comics, Kara Zor-El, similar to Superman (Kal-El), was sent to Earth as a child following Krypton’s impending destruction. However, due to some challenges during her journey, she arrived on Earth years later, with Superman already grown up. On Earth, Kara is adopted by Jeremiah and Eliza Danvers, which means she has two sets of parents: her biological Kryptonian parents Zor-El and Alura, as well as her adoptive parents.
As a die-hard comic book fan, I’m incredibly excited about the upcoming movie “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.” Based on the DC Comics series by Tom King and Bilquis Evely, this film sees Kara, who is turning 21, traveling through the cosmos and stumbling upon a young girl named Ruthye. In her quest for vengeance against the man who murdered her father, Krumholtz, Ruthye persuades Kara to join her.
Given that the comic book series delves deep into Kara’s emotional turmoil and memories of her biological parents, it seems plausible that Krumholtz and Beecham are portraying Zor-El and Alura in the film. Under the direction of Craig Gillespie with a script by Ana Nogueira, “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” promises to be an emotionally charged journey through space and time.
Supergirl will first appear in Superman
In contrast to the June 26, 2026 release date for “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” fans won’t need to wait that long to encounter Kara/Supergirl, as it is anticipated that she will first appear in James Gunn’s “Superman.” The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on July 11. However, the extent of Alcock’s role in “Superman” has yet to be determined.
The upcoming movie titled “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” is scheduled to hit theaters on July 26, 2026. Meanwhile, you can catch the release of “Superman” a year earlier on July 11, 2025.
