The upcoming project marks the second cinematic release by DC Studios following its restructuring, with James Gunn, known for Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad, serving as co-CEO.
Ever since I assumed control over the studio, I’ve made it clear that my focus is on delivering top-notch quality above all else. In fact, I believe the script for Woman of Tomorrow is the finest we’ve put together since my upcoming Superman reboot.
He shared with Omelete.com that he wasn’t exactly aware that Supergirl would be our second film, but Ana [Nogueira] crafted a remarkable script, which led us to bring on board an exceptional director.
Following Superman’s release, we’ve decided to proceed with this particular movie since it offers the most promising outcome. Other scripts have been penned, but none have matched its potential quite like this one. Therefore, we’ll continue moving forward with our plans for this film.
Gunn emphasized: “Whatever we undertake must be of high quality, and quality is paramount above all else, even surpassing the creation of an epic, sprawling storyline.
This aligns with previous statements by the writer-director, who expressed his opposition to commencing filming prior to completing the script, a practice that some major studios have historically engaged in.
He stated: “I’ve observed it repeatedly, and it’s quite disorganized. I believe this is the main factor contributing to the decline in film quality compared to 20 or 30 years ago.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow cast – Who is confirmed so far?
Milly Alcock and Jason Momoa have been confirmed to star in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
Announcing on Instagram, Gunn shared: “Milly possesses exceptional acting skills for someone so young, and I’m absolutely thrilled to have her join the DC Universe.
Absolutely! It was in House of the Dragon where I first noticed her, but it was her diverse auditions and screen tests for Supergirl that left me utterly astonished. She truly captures Kara as imagined by comic book creators Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and screenwriter Ana Nogueira.
In December 2024, Jason Momoa revealed plans to star in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, however, this won’t be a reprisal of his previous DC character, Aquaman, who is also known as Arthur Curry.
Rather than appearing in a different role, he will make his first appearance as the interstellar bounty hunter Lobo; a character he has long been associated with, who is recognized for his boisterous demeanor, frequent battles, and spacecraft that mirrors his motorcycle gang-style attire.
Last year at the premiere of “The Bikeriders,” Jason Momoa was spotted wearing a black and white t-shirt, which closely resembles the skin tone of his character, Lobo, in Tyler Gunn’s revamped DC Universe.
Earlier reports indicated that Matthias Schoenaerts, a renowned Belgian actor, was set to portray the main antagonist in the upcoming film “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.” This character is expected to be Krem from the Yellow Hills, a space pirate known for his prowess with swords and sorcery. In his statement, Gunn highlighted the contrast between Superman, who was nurtured by kind parents on Earth since infancy, and Supergirl, who was molded on a planet called Krypton and witnessed the tragic deaths of those around her for the initial fourteen years of her life.
“She is much more hardcore and not the Supergirl we’re used to.”
