Superman: First Footage From DCU Movie Released As Countdown to Trailer Begins

As a seasoned movie critic who has witnessed the rise and fall of countless superhero franchises, I must say that the upcoming “Superman” film under James Gunn’s direction has me genuinely excited. With a stellar cast led by David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, this new take promises to breathe fresh life into the Man of Steel.

Among the highly awaited movie previews lately, one is about to be released. Director James Gunn has revived the on-screen interconnected universe of DC Comics and is initiating the cinematic part of the series with a fresh perspective on the most legendary superhero ever: Superman. Soaring into cinemas next summer, Superman will feature David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, marking the start of a new chapter for DC heroes on the big screen.

Enthusiasts have been eagerly anticipating how director Gunn’s version of Superman would turn out, and now we’ve received a tiny sneak peek. On Wednesday, DC Studios shared a short trailer for Superman, featuring only 30 seconds from the movie. Furthermore, this teaser also confirmed that the full Superman trailer will be released on Thursday morning. You can watch the teaser above!

The majority of scenes from the recent trailer display individuals in Metropolis gazing skyward, anticipating Superman’s appearance as he soars overhead. While Superman himself isn’t heavily featured in the teaser, it does begin with an impressive shot focusing on Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that alongside a tantalizing sneak peek in the teaser, DC has set their clock ticking for the grand unveiling of the official trailer. This cinematic delight will grace our screens at 9am ET this coming Thursday morning!

In the new version of Superman, Corenswet takes on the role of Clark Kent, giving a fresh interpretation to the beloved character. Meanwhile, Rachel Brosnahan, known for her Emmy-winning performance in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, steps into the shoes of Lois Lane, the film’s other leading role. Interestingly, Nicholas Hoult, who was nearly chosen for Bruce Wayne in The Batman, is cast as Lex Luthor, Superman’s most well-known adversary in this movie.

In the TV series Superman, we have Skyler Gisondo playing Clark’s close friend, Jimmy Olsen, while Wendell Pierce takes on the role of Perry White at The Daily Planet. Milly Alcock appears as Kara Zor-El, better known as Supergirl, and Isabela Merced is cast as Kendra Saunders, also known as Hawkgirl. Nathan Fillion steps into the character of Guy Gardner, Sean Gunn portrays Maxwell Lord, Edi Gathegi is Michael Holt (Mister Terrific), Maria Gabriela de Faria plays Angela Spica (The Engineer), Sara Sampan is Eve Teschmacher, Anthony Carrigan becomes Rex Mason (Metamorphosis), Frank Grillo takes up the role of Rick Flag Sr., Neva Howell is Martha Kent, and Pruitt Taylor Vince embodies Jonathan Kent.

It’s quite evident that these character names indicate they will play significant roles in expanding the DC Universe. Grillo’s Flag has already made his appearance in the franchise, as he is a main character in the animated Creature Commandos TV series. Fillion’s Guy Gardner is well-known among DC Comic readers, ranking high in popularity behind characters like Hal Jordan and John Stewart. In HBO’s upcoming Lanterns series, Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre will portray these two popular Green Lanterns.

It’s been confirmed that Milly Alcock will star in a standalone Supergirl movie within the DC Universe, titled “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.” The film is expected to premiere in 2026, roughly a year following the release of Superman’s first appearance.

Superman is set to hit theaters everywhere on July 11, 2025.
