Superman & Lois fans dub season 4 finale “the perfect send-off” after emotional flash-forward

As a long-time fan of the Superman saga, I must say that the final episode of Superman & Lois was nothing short of a masterpiece. It beautifully encapsulated the essence of hope, love, and friendship that has always been at the heart of this iconic duo. The poignant flash-forward to Clark and Lois’ long and happy life together, followed by their touching deaths, left me in tears but also filled me with a sense of closure that I didn’t know I needed.

Warning: Spoilers for Superman & Lois season 4 episode 10 ahead.

The finale of Superman & Lois, the series, aired recently, leaving fans contented and praising it as “a fitting farewell” following an emotionally intense fourth season.

In a unique twist for any Superman series, the CW show that debuted in 2021 portrayed Clark Kent (played by Tyler Hoechlin) and Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch), living out their lives together.

In a heart-wrenching advance scene, we catch a glimpse of the couple’s fulfilling journey filled with joy and love that spanned many years. This glimpse is followed by their tragic ends; first Lois, who hears Clark express his gratitude, “Everything wonderful in my life is because of you,” and then Superman, who realizes, as he takes his last breath, what true meaning life holds: Joy, Hope, Forgiveness, Friendship, Love.

Following a profoundly impactful Season 4, during which several long-lasting series characters met their ends, it undeniably provided a potent conclusion to the audience.

Many viewers have expressed admiration for the heartfelt ending, as one individual put it on X (previously Twitter): “The #SupermanAndLois finale was remarkable! Undeniably one of the finest interpretations of the Superman mythos ever. I’ll surely miss this series.

I’d like to express my gratitude to @cwsupermanlois, @BitsieTulloch, @tylerhoechlin, @Cudlitz, and the rest of you for providing an unforgettable farewell!

One person commented: “The #SupermanAndLois series lived up to all fan expectations. It was filled with emotion, sincerity, and provided a fitting conclusion. It’s both joyful and sad to realize this is truly the end of the Arrowverse. A decade of remarkable storytelling and heroism concluded by a show that never lost sight of hope.

“Adding to the list, ‘SUPERMAN & LOIS’ will be remembered as one of the finest Superman series ever made. The cast and team behind it have earned every bit of praise they receive for their emotional conclusion. Fond memories abound – time flew by so quickly.

A different admirer expressed: ‘The conclusion of #SupermanandLois is among the finest work DC has ever produced. It’s a flawlessly heartwarming ending that showcases hope and underscores the significance of their lives, family, and each other for Tyler Hoechlin & Elizabeth Tulloch. They will forever be considered one of the best portrayals of Superman and Lois!’

Todd Helbing shared with TVLine that the daring choice to conclude the series with the two primary characters meeting their demise received overwhelming support from everyone involved in the production process.

“The CW had one thought, which actually really helped. It was just a small note. I don’t remember what it was, but it basically led to that scene with Clark and Lois in the farmhouse that tees up [the flash-forward], and we just had to reframe it slightly.

As a cinephile, I can’t help but share an intriguing experience we encountered. Our script has sparked a universal response, causing many to shed tears even while soaring through the skies. I’ve heard countless tales of people reading our script on planes and weeping uncontrollably. In fact, one of our executives shared that the passenger next to her inquired, “Are you alright?” Such feedback is incredibly gratifying because it underscores the emotional resonance our story has with its audience.

“It’s what we were going for, to have an ending that people could think about for a while.”

It’s fair to conclude that they have surpassed all predictions regarding that aspect. Farewell, Superman and Lois!
