Superman & Lois: First Trailer for Final Season Released

Superman & Lois: First Trailer for Final Season Released

As a longtime fan of Superman and the Arrowverse shows on The CW, I can’t help but feel a pang of sadness upon hearing that the fourth and final season of “Superman & Lois” is just around the corner. The trailer released unintentionally gives us a sneak peek into what seems to be an adaptation of “The Death of Superman” storyline, which has been a fan-favorite comic book arc for decades.

An unintended first trailer for “Superman & Lois” Season 4 was accidentally released by The CW before its scheduled appearance at San Diego Comic Con. The 77-second preview became available on The CW App and was later shared on DCU Prime TV, a fan-run social media account. Viewer discretion is advised as the trailer contains significant spoilers for the upcoming season, which is set to premiere in the fall.

Alright, everybody who doesn’t want to see it gone? Good. Here’s the trailer:

It’s widely believed that the fourth and final season of “Superman & Lois” will draw inspiration from “The Death of Superman,” a popular comic book storyline from the 1990s where Superman and Doomsday met their demise. In this retelling, Doomsday is depicted as a twisted form of Bizarro, unleashed against Superman by Lex Luthor.

I’ve seen the Superman story unfold in various adaptations throughout the years. The first time was in DC’s initial animated film under their Universe label, titled “Superman: Doomsday.” While it wasn’t a faithful representation of the comics, it did introduce an intriguing twist – Lex Luthor played a role in the creation of Doomsday. This theme resurfaced in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” which also concluded with Superman’s tragic demise. Later on, the story continued in a two-part animated series called “Death and Return of Superman.”

After Superman’s demise, he was brought back to life in the comic book series “Reign of the Supermen.” In this narrative, four different characters attempted to take on the role of the deceased Man of Steel. These individuals were John Henry Irons, who became Steel, a genetically-engineered Superboy, The Eradicator, and Hank Henshaw, who donned the Cyborg Superman identity. In “Superman & Lois,” versions of Steel, Superboy, and The Eradicator have appeared. It’s suggested that this series could explore a rendition of “Reign of the Supermen” during its fourth season. Additionally, the black “recovery suit” from “Reign of the Supermen,” which was worn by an evil Superman who killed Lois on John Henry Irons’ Earth, has been utilized in the show. Although it’s doubtful that the entire season will be a direct adaptation of this story, given Clark Kent/Superman and lead actor Tyler Hoechlin’s significant roles.

The fourth and final season of “Superman & Lois” is set to begin on October 17th, Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET. Kick-starting the season will be a 2-hour premiere between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Afterward, new episodes of “Superman & Lois” will air every Thursday at 8 p.m., with “The Librarians: The Next Chapter,” produced by Dean Devlin, following at 9 p.m. This season consists of ten episodes, but broadcast interruptions for sports and holidays make it challenging to pinpoint the exact finale date.
