As a long-time fan of Superman, I must say that this week’s episode of Superman & Lois has certainly kept me on the edge of my seat! The way Lex Luthor is manipulating the media to discredit Lois and Clark is reminiscent of real-life political campaigns. It’s a chilling reminder of how far one can go when they have power, money, and influence.
In this week’s installment of Superman & Lois, Lex Luthor (Michael Cudlitz) escalated his crusade against the Kent family, particularly Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch). He exploited media and talk show host Gordon Godfrey (Tom Cavanagh) to smear Lois’ reputation and portray Clark (Tyler Hoechlin) unfavorably by airing footage of their street fight in Smallville. As it becomes increasingly difficult to apprehend Luthor, “To Live and Die Again” approaches, and Lois encounters a roadblock in her investigation. However, luckily for her, Clark offers a solution. The CW has shared an exclusive sneak peek of next week’s episode, and in it, Clark encourages Lois to adhere to her own counsel for difficult times: return to the origin. You can witness this for yourself by viewing the video below.
In the video, it’s apparent that Lois perceives themselves as having lost, but it’s Clark who encourages her, reminding her of their team’s invincibility and giving her advice similar to what she often gives: when faced with a challenge, trust your instincts and reevaluate your steps, starting from the beginning. This serves as a crucial reminder for Lois to reconsider her research. Simultaneously, Clark prepares to assist their sons in getting ready for whatever may follow, since Luthor has made it clear that they are now targets as well.
Indeed, managing Luthor’s threat isn’t their sole predicament; this week’s episode also unveiled a troubling fact for Clark. John (Wole Parks) conducts tests, and it’s revealed that not only is Clark losing his powers, but his human heart, as expected of a human, will eventually cease to function. This revelation has a significant impact on the family and offers a glimpse into how the Man of Steel will cope with a human heart, as well as the implications this brings about.
In his conversation with ComicBook, Tulloch expressed that the manner in which this character reappears is intriguing due to the sudden presence of an elderly man’s emotions within him, as well as a human heart he now possesses. Essentially, it’s a new individual whose abilities are still unknown at present.
Next week’s installment marks the second-to-last episode for Superman & Lois. As we approach the end of the series, it means we’re nearing the final episode, which our co-showrunner Brent Fletcher hinted will be unexpectedly thrilling in wrapping up the storylines. At this stage, it’s anyone’s conjecture what that might entail.
Fletcher expressed his doubt that viewers will approve of how the show concludes, stating that when it finishes and the credits roll, they might find themselves taken aback by the ending.
Superman & Lois airs Mondays at 8/7c on The CW. “To Live and Die Again” airs November 25th.
