The upcoming DC Studios movie featuring Superman promises to be an enormous success, boasting a renowned writer-director from the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, The Suicide Squad, and Peacemaker (James Gunn), along with a beloved canine companion (Krypto the Superdog). Furthermore, it features a notorious adversary in Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor, as well as menacing villains like Ultraman and the Hammer of Boravia. Additionally, the movie boasts an impressive ensemble cast that includes Isabela Merced from The Last of Us, and a youthful portrayal of Superman by David Corenswet.
Additionally, this summer will introduce some of our favorite superheroes to the big screen for the first time: Mister Terrific, portrayed by Edi Gathegi; Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern; Merced as Hawkgirl; and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, the Element Man, who has only been briefly shown in promotional footage thus far.
Carrigan was thrilled on the latest DC Studios Showcase Podcast, stating, ‘It’s amazing! The fact that they’re catching tiny peeks excites me, and I truly enjoy it.’ He continued, ‘This is just a small part of what I get to do in this film. It’s full of enjoyable things, and slowly revealing bits and pieces is my favorite.’
As a passionate film enthusiast, when prompted about the comic books that ignite my creativity, I simply replied, “I devour whatever comics I can lay my hands on.
This aspect was crucial for me, and possibly a key factor in James deciding to hire me, as this specific character carries a deep emotional resonance. Unlike many superheroes, he doesn’t embrace his powers; instead, he views them as a curse. This perspective is something I can add to the role, and it sparked my enthusiasm.
Metamorpho is a character who can transform his physical form due to being infused with various elements. Originally known as Rex Mason, a mercenary, he underwent a change after contact with a radioactive meteor that rearranged the chemical components within his body. As a result, Rex gained the power to alter his molecular structure into different combinations of chemical elements and then mold these changes into whatever shapes or forms he could imagine.
Collaborating on showcasing Metamorpho’s powers was an exciting blend of preparing for my role and sticking to the script, but also improvising fun ideas with James on set. James is always up for making something entertaining, so if I had an idea, he would encourage us to give it a shot. Many creative elements came from this dynamic, as we often thought, “He’s the Element Man, so what if we do this?” and James would agree, “Let’s try it!” Working in such a supportive and innovative atmosphere was truly exceptional.
DC Studios’ Superman flies into theaters July 11.
