In my perspective, as someone who’s been fortunate enough to star in a superhero film, I think it’s only fair that we, the actors, shouldn’t voice complaints about our experience afterward. Recently, while chatting with Amanda Seyfried for Interview Magazine, I found myself reflecting on my shared experiences with David Corenswet, my co-star from the Superman movie. It was during this conversation that Seyfried astutely pointed out a significant factor behind our strong rapport – we were both thrilled to be a part of something as momentous as this film. Indeed, it’s not hard to discern when actors are genuinely passionate about their roles in blockbusters.
In response to Seyfried’s insightful observation, I shared my thoughts on those actors who criticize their superhero credits.
Brosnahan stated, “It’s puzzling when people agree to something but later grumble about it. I’m not trying to criticize other actors, but there was a time when it was fashionable to dislike superhero movies and mock projects like this. If you’re going to take part, then stick by your decision.
Previously, various acting professionals have shared their intricate connections with major movie franchises, without explicitly naming names. For instance, Elizabeth Olsen, known for her role as Wanda Maximoff in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, admitted that Marvel films aren’t typically the kind of art she personally enjoys consuming. Similarly, a notable figure in the Marvel universe, Scarlett Johansson, has expressed feelings of being reduced to a mere plot device rather than a fully-developed character during some of her portrayals as Black Widow.

Actress Brosnahan is all set to appear in her first superhero film this summer, titled “Superman”. This marks the initial theatrical release within the DC Universe series. It’s yet undisclosed when her character Lois Lane will reappear next, although director James Gunn has hinted that he’s working on a continuation which might not strictly follow as a direct sequel.
It’s clear that Brosnahan advocates for actors to embrace all their roles, regardless if they are from indie films or big studio productions like Marvel movies. However, there is a complex aspect when it comes to an actor’s feelings towards superhero films. Actors like Johansson and Olsen have expressed pride in their Marvel work, but also hint at areas where things could have been different. Sometimes, these comic book adaptations focus more on plot than character development, which can limit the opportunities for acting exploration. Additionally, these productions can be demanding in terms of time and energy, possibly restricting an actor’s ability to engage in other creative pursuits. In essence, Johansson and Olsen offer balanced views on the experience of being part of a blockbuster production, highlighting both its advantages and challenges.
As a passionate fan, I’m eagerly following Rachel Brosnahan’s journey in the DC universe. With her unique perspective, taking on Lois Lane is something entirely new and invigorating for her. The experience of being in ‘Superman’ has been exhilarating, and it’s heartening to know she enjoyed the filmmaking process immensely. It will be intriguing to observe how, or if, her viewpoint evolves over time as she continues in this role.
Similarly, David Harbour from ‘Stranger Things’, who once thought he’d never tire of being part of that show, is now ready for a change after a decade. Perhaps Brosnahan will maintain the same level of enthusiasm throughout her DC career, but like Harbour, it’s possible to hold deep affection and respect for big-screen projects while also recognizing certain aspects that can sometimes detract from the overall experience.
