As I watched the freshly unveiled trailer of the latest Superman installment, it appears they’re hinting at a contentious character from the DC universe serving as the President of the United States – quite an intriguing twist! The DC universe is vast and diverse, each character seemingly inhabiting their own unique realm. Batman calls the gloomy Gotham City home, while Superman patrols the more vibrant Metropolis. Despite being worlds apart, they share the same cosmos, which adds a layer of complexity to the crossover events that never fail to captivate me.
Characters like Batman and Superman are like yin and yang – polar opposites who bring out the best in each other and make for an effective team when working towards a common objective. This dynamic tension is what keeps me eagerly anticipating their interactions on screen.
A goal they frequently agree upon is thwarting Lex Luthor, a cunning, malicious billionaire. Unlike many adversaries he faces, Luthor is simply human, possessing political influence, intelligence, and wealth as his main weapons. This makes him an unusual threat because, theoretically, he could be defeated with just a few blows, but he often stays one step ahead or is too significant a figure to attack outright. He has even held the position of U.S. President in the DC universe at some point, and it seems that James Gunn may explore this concept further on the big screen.
Is Lex Luthor the President in Superman?
In the opening scene of the new Superman preview, Lois Lane is granted an official interview with Clark by his superhero persona, Superman. She starts questioning him about the public backlash regarding his involvement in various disasters, including wars. Despite Superman’s belief that he prevented a war, others perceive it as him breaking the law by interfering. Lois then probes Superman about whether he sought approval from the President of the United States before entering another country. The trailer abruptly shifts focus to Lex Luthor in a conspicuous manner at this point.
In the film “Superman,” there’s an intriguing possibility that Lex Luthor might have assumed the presidency. Yet, considering his villainous actions shown in the trailers like attacking the Fortress of Solitude, it appears quite improbable, given his busy schedule as President and the potential risks involved in such actions without raising suspicion. However, since we’re dealing with a comic book universe, things can get exaggerated. It might be stretching the boundaries too far, but it wouldn’t shock me if the events of “Superman” set the stage for Lex Luthor’s presidential campaign.
It’s possible that the character could become President in an upcoming film, potentially using his influence to challenge Superman. While we can only speculate, it appears that director James Gunn and the movie’s creative team might be subtly hinting at this plot twist to fans worldwide.
On July 11th, Superman will be released in cinemas. Would you like to see Lex Luthor as the U.S. President? Share your thoughts below.
