The unveiling of the title “Godzilla vs. Kong: Supernova” set the internet ablaze, rekindling a long-held speculation about the ancient Titan War in the MonsterVerse. This theory now appears more plausible than ever as we approach the direct sequel to 2024’s “Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire.” Alongside a sneak peek of upcoming footage, it was confirmed that the movie is slated for release in 2027. For months, casting updates have been trickling in, but the title announcement for “Godzilla vs. Kong: Supernova” marks the beginning of the build-up to the next installment in Legendary’s MonsterVerse.
In the MonsterVerse series, each film’s subtitle provides a quick summary of the main storyline. However, the last two titles were unveiled before specific plot details had been widely disclosed. Similar to the previous title “The New Empire“, the new movie’s subtitle “Supernova” seems more like a mystery or puzzle when it’s announced so early on. Fans of Godzilla have already started sharing their theories online, with many believing that the film’s antagonist was hinted at years ago and ties back to the ancient Titan War teased in “Godzilla vs. Kong“.
Concept Art From Godzilla vs. Kong Seemingly Teased SpaceGodzilla’s Debut
A Painted Mural Showed A Flying Godzilla-like Creature
As a die-hard fan of the MonsterVerse, I can’t help but ponder over the title of the upcoming epic, Godzilla X Kong: Supernova. It’s hard not to speculate that SpaceGodzilla could potentially be the next threat our favorite titans face, given his cosmic origins and connection with space, stars, and black holes. This theory has been buzzing among fans ever since the promotional phase, release, and aftermath of Godzilla vs. Kong. Intriguingly, the art book for that very movie, titled Godzilla vs. Kong: One Will Fall: The Art of the Ultimate Battle Royale, even showcased a piece of unused concept art hinting at the crystalline cosmic menace. It’s exciting to imagine where this story could lead!

As a movie enthusiast, I found myself captivated by an ancient mural that appeared to depict the legendary Titan War. Intriguingly, both the Great Apes and Godzilla’s species were engaged in battle, but their aggression was not aimed at each other. Instead, they were all focused on a solitary, winged creature soaring overhead.
What stood out to me was a figure that bore a striking resemblance to Godzilla, but with enormous wings and unleashing flames upon the assembled adversaries below him. Despite not having crystals like SpaceGodzilla, the swirling constellation from where it emerged suggested that this was an interpretation of the cosmic Godzilla.
The color difference between one figure, which is painted blue while the others are red in the mural, suggests a hidden adversary during an ancient conflict. It could be that this was the Titan War or another struggle entirely, where two opposing sides joined forces to vanquish a greater menace. If current beliefs hold true, this painting might be the first clue pointing towards SpaceGodzilla as the powerful ancient foe.
What The SpaceGodzilla Theory Could Mean For Supernova’s Story
SpaceGodzilla May Not Need To Come From Space
If the old artifact depicting SpaceGodzilla is considered authentic, and indeed shows SpaceGodzilla, it provides a crucial hint for the storyline of Godzilla X Kong: Supernova. Since SpaceGodzilla is shown fighting against ancient Great Apes and members of Godzilla’s species in the past, he won’t be making his entrance from outer space in the upcoming movie. Instead, it’s plausible that SpaceGodzilla has been on Earth all along, possibly lying dormant within the Hollow Earth somewhere. This could also give us a clue about how he was originally brought into existence.
In the series “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters,” it’s possible that SpaceGodzilla’s origins have been revealed, and they are connected to the Hollow Earth. The show suggests a scenario where radiation from a black hole is discovered, emanating from the Hollow Earth and appearing near one of the Vile Vortices, which serve as gateways between our world and the three layers of the Hollow Earth. Rather than SpaceGodzilla being born in a space-based black hole, he might be a Godzilla kin who was tainted by the black hole radiation deep within the Hollow Earth itself.
If a creature belongs to Godzilla’s species, it might possess Godzilla’s unique trait of absorbing radiation from various origins, amplifying its power accordingly. It is speculated that Godzilla obtained some of Tiamet’s DNA when he vanquished her and encased himself in her dwelling to further draw radiation. It is possible that SpaceGodzilla emerged from a member of Godzilla’s species who interacted with the black hole radiation of the Hollow Earth, and has been sustaining itself on this energy source for centuries, or as long as it has been since the ancient Titan War.
Why SpaceGodzilla Could Be Godzilla & Kong’s Strongest Foe Yet
He’s Shown Battling An Army Of Kongs And Godzillas
In the mural, the figure appears to be engaged in a fierce struggle against an overwhelming horde of Kongs and Godzillas, suggesting it could potentially be SpaceGodzilla. This adversary, fought by Godzilla in the iconic 1994 film from the Heisei Era, “Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla,” is often regarded as one of, if not the most formidable opponents that Godzilla has encountered on screen. The arsenal of energy and psychic attacks, along with defenses at his disposal, is extensive.
- Corona Beam
- Photon Reactive Shield
- Gravity Tornado
- Photon Hurricane
- Homing Ghosts
- Energy Manipulation
- Geokinesis
To put it simply, SpaceGodzilla proved to be incredibly powerful in that film, overpowering Godzilla alone. It wasn’t until the joint forces of Godzilla and M.O.G.U.E.R.A., a mecha defender from the Japan Self-Defense Force, intervened that SpaceGodzilla was subdued. Interestingly enough, it was M.O.G.U.E.R.A. who weakened SpaceGodzilla by destroying his shoulder crystals with powerful blasts, not Godzilla. Initially, Godzilla couldn’t hold his own against SpaceGodzilla, but he ultimately finished him off with a special red spiral heat ray version of his atomic breath after M.O.G.U.E.R.A.’s intervention.
In my humble opinion as a movie critic, SpaceGodzilla might just be the formidable foe that Godzilla and Kong struggle to overcome in the upcoming film, Godzilla X Kong: Supernova. After their seemingly effortless defeat of Skar King once his grip on Shimo was loosened, it’s clear that SpaceGodzilla could present a challenge they haven’t faced before. If SpaceGodzilla indeed lives up to the implication in the title, he might necessitate Godzilla and Kong to seek help from Titans beyond Mothra and Shimo. The strength of an adversary like SpaceGodzilla could herald the onset of a completely new Titan War, with Godzilla and Kong leading an alliance of Titans in their valiant defense of Earth.
