Suranne Jones and Rose Leslie’s Vigil returns for season 3 – and “most high-stakes mission yet”

Actresses Suranne Jones and Rose Leslie are set to reappear in the upcoming third season of the popular crime series Vigil. According to Rose Leslie herself, this new season promises to be their “highest risk assignment” yet.

In this new assignment, I’ll find myself delving into a chilling mystery instead of a submarine murder or drone attack. This time, the investigation leads me to a desolate Arctic research station. The victim is a member from a secretive British special forces unit who met an untimely end by a gunshot.

In simpler terms, the storyline involves Amy and Kirsten who must track down the murderer while avoiding a looming geopolitical conflict over valuable resources in the rapidly shifting polar regions. Their professional reputations and personal relationship are at stake.

Filming for the upcoming six-episode season will commence in Scotland towards the end of the year; however, a release date for airing these episodes on BBC One and iPlayer has not been announced as of now.

Regarding the upcoming event, Jones expressed her confidence that it would be an exhilarating experience. On the other hand, Leslie described it as an opportunity for Kirsten to embark on Vigil’s riskiest mission so far, along with Amy, by packing her bags.

Writer Tom Edge, responsible for penning each season of the series, expressed his joy saying: “It’s fantastic that Suranne and Rose will be back for another exciting journey.

In the third chapter of our journey, I find myself venturing towards the icy expanses of the far north. Here, the world’s dominant forces are in a fierce struggle, each seeking to claim their share of the shifting landscape as the polar ice gradually retreats.

I expressed: “Gathering an exceptional ensemble for our production, I eagerly anticipate crafting a captivating exploration. Our aim is to shed light on matters crucial to our shared future, making a significant impact on the world we inhabit.

Simultaneously, BBC’s Drama Director Lindsay Salt labeled Season 3 as “their most pulse-pounding operation yet”. She further stated that “Tom Edge and the World Productions team have outdone themselves with a fresh mystery and backdrop which will provide even more of the fantastic, blockbuster drama that Vigil’s numerous viewers have grown to anticipate and cherish from this exceptional series.
