On the 23rd of January, Microsoft initiated their inaugural gaming event for the year, presenting the latest Xbox Developer_Direct.
As a viewer, I’ve noticed that these shows usually delve deeply into established titles, yet they also surprise us with their own unique twists. This year, we can expect to journey back in time with DOOM: The Dark Ages, exploring the medieval past of the Doom Slayer; immerse ourselves in the Southern gothic action game South of Midnight; and lastly, experience an “AAA”-style retro turn-based RPG called Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Now, we’ve also learned about the fourth game!
To kick things off, Team Ninja and Platinum Games return with an entirely new installment in the Ninja Gaiden series. This popular franchise has a connection to Xbox, as the significant 2004 reboot was initially released directly for the original console. The franchise played a crucial role in popularizing the hack n’ slash genre, leading to numerous sequels and spin-offs. Just recently, Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound was unveiled, collaborating with the talented team behind the side-scrolling masterpiece Blasphemous. Additionally, Microsoft has joined forces with Koei Tecmo to bring several classic Ninja Gaiden games to Xbox backward compatibility. The main trilogy has been remastered and can now be played on Xbox Cloud Gaming and Xbox Game Pass as well.
Ninja Gaiden centers around Ryu Hayabusa, a member of the Dragon Clan, who faces off against diverse supernatural and demonic adversaries. This action-packed game is renowned for its challenging gameplay that requires advanced skills, earning it recognition as an inspiration for numerous other games.
