Surprise Shonen Jump Series Announces Sudden Break Due to Illness

Weekly Shonen Jump magazine published by Shueisha is preparing for major transformations this summer, with an unexpected twist: one popular series will temporarily halt due to the creator’s health issues. The upcoming months promise fierce competition within Shueisha’s action magazine, as new creators are being ushered in and old ones bid farewell. Even well-established series could face challenges during this time of change.

Takeru Hokazono’s manga “Kagurabachi” has been published in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine for more than a year now and has been among the most successful new series debuts recently. However, due to an intense new storyline, the manga will momentarily pause its release as announced by the official social media of “Kagurabachi.” Instead of appearing this week in Shonen Jump, Chapter 83 of “Kagurabachi” will be published on Sunday, June 23rd.

📢 I’m sorry to say, but due to unforeseen circumstances (the author’s sudden illness), the upcoming Weekly Shonen Jump issue 29 (on sale June 16th) won’t feature “Kagura-bachi” as planned. Don’t worry, though! You can look forward to reading the continuation in Weekly Shonen Jump issue 30 (on sale June 23rd). I appreciate your understanding and patience.

Why Is Kagurabachi Going on Break?

Originally slated for release on June 16th in this week’s Shueisha Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, Chapter 83 of Kagurabachi has been postponed until June 23rd due to the artist’s health concerns. Thankfully, we can look forward to the next chapter just a week later. It’s crucial for manga creators to prioritize their well-being, given the history of creators facing stress from weekly release schedules. Fans understand and are supportive, eagerly anticipating the next installment as long as Hokazono is in good health.

The manga series “Kagurabachi” generated a lot of buzz among Shonen Jump enthusiasts long before it was serialized in the magazine. Its debut chapter ignited a global wave of excitement. Whether driven by irony or not, fans were captivated by the unique style of Hokazono’s manga series from the very first glance. Unlike anything they had previously seen in the magazine, fans eagerly hoped for an official anime adaptation based on just that initial chapter.

What’s Going on in Kagurabachi?

Right now seems like an ideal moment for Kagurabachi to pause its storyline, given that it appears to be at the height of the Sword Bearer Assassination Arc’s climax. The character of Samura has moved into a surprising antagonist role, one that Chihiro Rokuhira must eventually overcome with his sword. After battling through an entire building filled with adversaries, Chihiro has at last initiated the much-anticipated fight with Samura, as depicted in Chapter 82 of the series.

The fight upcoming will require the creator to pour in a substantial amount of effort, not just for depicting the combat itself, but also showcasing the unique powers of each Enchanted Blade. This battle may also take an emotional toll since there seems to be no easy resolution, and Chihiro might lose more ties to his past as the struggle for the Enchanted Blades intensifies. However, as Kagurabachi approaches its 100th chapter, it’s expected that popularity will grow further, with occasional pauses in between.
