Netflix unveiled the official teaser for an upcoming three-episode documentary titled “Surviving Black Hawk Down,” chronicling the events of the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu.
Previously, the occurrences of that battle served as motivation for Ridley Scott’s movie “Black Hawk Down” in 2001. Remarkably, Scott was even nominated for an Academy Award for his direction in this film.
The film went on to win two awards at the Oscars that year, for Best Film Editing and Best Sound.
The series recounts in detail the true events that inspired the film Black Hawk Down by Ridley Scott, combining intense, engaging storytelling with firsthand accounts from participants on both sides of the Battle of Mogadishu.
You can watch the trailer for the series right here now.
The series originates from Scott’s personal production company, RSA Films, and Dominic Crossley-Holland, the global head of unscripted at RSA, expressed in a statement: “RSA is excited to share this captivating tale with a fresh audience through Netflix, nearly 25 years after Ridley’s legendary film.
This narrative is captivating, and it’s deeply impactful to listen to perspectives from American troops and Somali people for the first time.
The film is set to include interviews from individuals who experienced the events themselves, along with engaging narrative styles similar to what was showcased in the preview. The release date for this production is scheduled on Netflix for February 10th.
The movie “Black Hawk Down” featured actors like Josh Hartnett, Ewan McGregor, and Eric Bana. It told the story of a Black Hawk helicopter’s crew who were forced to crash-land, while U.S. special forces aimed to overthrow the Somalia government and provide food and humanitarian aid to the famished populace.
