Swerve Strickland Signs “One of the Biggest” Contracts in AEW History

Swerve Strickland Signs "One of the Biggest" Contracts in AEW History

As a dedicated fan who’s been following Swerve Strickland’s journey since his debut in AEW, I can confidently say that this man is a force to be reckoned with! His recent feud with Hangman Page and subsequent rise to become the AEW World Champion has been nothing short of electrifying.

Swerve Strickland may not be an AEW original, but the past year of his run in All Elite Wrestling has cemented himself as one of the company’s cornerstones. Strickland broke out in Fall 2023 when he feuded with Hangman Page, targeting the former AEW World Champion in an effort to take his place on the card. After going 2-0 against Hangman, Swerve graduated to the world title scene, eventually dethroning then-champion Samoa Joe to capture AEW’s top prize. Over the next four months, Swerve racked up successful defenses against the likes of Christian Cage, Will Ospreay, and Claudio Castagnoli before eventually dropping the gold to Bryan Danielson at AEW ALL IN: London.

Even without championship gold, Swerve Strickland’s AEW future has never been more certain.

Prior to the AEW ALL IN: London – Zero Hour pre-show, it became clear that Swerve had secured a new agreement with All Elite Wrestling. According to Fightful Select, this fresh deal binds him to AEW until at least 2028, making it one of the most substantial contracts in the company’s history. Swerve’s previous contract, which he signed upon his debut in March 2022, was nearing its end next year. However, both parties agreed that the terms of his old deal no longer fit his growing status within the company.

It isn’t exactly known what Swerve’s contract is worth, but considering the value of leading AEW contracts, it seems to be in the range of seven figures. Notable figures such as Mercedes Mon?, the AEW TBS Champion, Kazuchika Okada, the AEW Continental Champion, and MJF are all rumored to earn millions annually on their deals.

“It seems as if I just won an NBA Championship, and with the upcoming draft of new players entering the league next year, the entire landscape of the NBA could change drastically. It feels much like this for Swerve when discussing his position at the top while AEW brings in new free agents such as Mon? and Okada. This is similar to the influx of talented quarterbacks in the NFL, with Patrick Mahomes currently on top. I aspire to be Mahomes, to establish a dynasty like AEW is poised to become. We’re not wondering who the next person will be, but rather recognizing and pursuing what we already have.”

On this coming Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite, Swerve is anticipated to reignite his rivalry with Hangman Page. This could potentially lead to a match-up between the two at AEW All Out on September 7th.
