The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2’s innovative Joy-Con controllers will offer a range of fresh capabilities, including mouse functionality, a novel C button with enhanced social features, and additional improvements. Surprisingly, it appears that the Joy-Con controllers from the original Nintendo Switch won’t be rendered obsolete for the new generation console as well.
According to Nintendo’s official website for the Switch 2, it has been confirmed that players can utilize their existing Switch 1 Joy-Con controllers to play games designed for the Switch 2. However, you won’t have access to the unique features exclusive to the Switch 2 with these controllers. This implies that games like Drag x Drive, which relies on mouse functionality, will only be playable using the new Joy-Con 2 controllers specifically designed for the Switch 2.
On the Nintendo Switch 2, some additional functions may not work when using the Nintendo Switch 1 controllers. Specifically, you won’t be able to wake up the device from sleep mode by pressing the HOME button on controllers like the Joy-Con or the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, as explained by Nintendo.
On controllers lacking a C button, you can initiate GameChat by navigating to the option within the main menu.
On June 5, the new Nintendo Switch 2 hits the market, featuring “Mario Kart World” as its debut game. Its price tag stands at $449.99.
