Switch 2 Won’t Support VRR in Docked Mode, Nintendo Confirms

After the unveiling of the Nintendo Switch 2, its official website initially mentioned that the console would offer Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support in both docked and handheld modes. However, this information was later discreetly taken down. Now, Nintendo has provided an explanation regarding the scope of VRR support on their upcoming console.

In an announcement to Nintendo Life, Nintendo has clarified that the upcoming Switch 2 will only offer Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support during handheld mode, and not while docked. The company admitted that earlier information about this feature on their website was incorrect, leading many to speculate since then, and they’ve expressed their apologies for the mistake.

It’s important to note that the Nintendo Switch 2 offers Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) functionality exclusively in its handheld mode. Earlier, there was an error in the information provided on the official Nintendo Switch 2 website, and we sincerely apologize for any confusion this may have caused.

Could we potentially see Virtual Reality Refresh Rate (VRR) added for docked mode as a future update? Nintendo hasn’t announced anything specific about this yet, but they didn’t definitively say “no” either.

The sequel to the Nintendo Switch, named Nintendo Switch 2, is scheduled for a global release on June 5. On this same day, “Mario Kart World” will be its debut game. Additionally, Nintendo has announced that on launch day, several upgrades for Nintendo Switch 1 games like various Mario series, Zelda titles, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, among others, will be available free of charge as enhancements for the new console.
