Sydney Sweeney is feeling euphoric about her body transformation.
Indeed, the actress openly expressed her affection for putting on over 30 extra pounds to portray boxing icon Christy Martin in a forthcoming biography that will be helmed by David Michod.
In an interview with W magazine on June 7th, she shared that she joined the project to portray Christy, and her training period lasted approximately three and a half months. During this time, she began focusing on nutrition, spending mornings on weight training for an hour, followed by two hours of kickboxing in the afternoon, and ending her day with another hour of weight training.
As a result of her new routine, Sydney said her body became “completely different.”
She went on to say, “None of my garments were fitting me right, you see. Normally, I wear a size 23 for jeans, but I found myself in a 27. My chest expanded, and so did my rear end. It was quite astonishing!
The 27-year-old added with a laugh, “But it was amazing: I was so strong, like crazy strong.”
It requires a woman of great strength to portray Christy, considering she endured a nearly fatal assault at the hands of her ex-husband, James “Jim” Martin, in 2010. Tragically, Jim passed away in 2024 while serving his sentence for the attempted murder.
Over the last few months, Sydney has been deeply engrossed in learning about an extraordinary woman’s life – a woman who was not just a fighter inside the ring, but also outside it. In October, she shared on Instagram that this woman’s journey embodies resilience, strength, and hope, and she feels privileged to portray her inspiring tale to all of you.
Together with her note, the actress from “Euphoria” posted pictures of herself portraying Christy, aged 56, on the set of a sports film. Sporting a brunette wig and a red sleeveless blouse, Sydney confidently displayed her toned arm to highlight her recent muscle gain.
Last year, she shared with Deadline that Christy’s narrative isn’t a simple one; it requires both physical and emotional strength, and there’s a heavy burden to bear. However, she enjoys testing her limits. Christy Martin not only made female boxing credible, but she also broke through gender expectations and battled through emotional, physical, and financial hardships.
