SZA almost had an SOS.
During the first night of their joint tour in Minneapolis, the performer known for “Kill Bill” managed to prevent a significant fall just before taking a tumble while on stage. This was alongside fellow artist, Kendrick Lamar.
On the 19th of April, I found myself utterly captivated by a video shared on X (once known as Twitter), showcasing SZA’s concert performance. In one breathtaking moment, she tried a daring move with one of her male backup dancers – wrapping her leg around his waist and slinging her arm over his shoulder. However, during the spin, an unforeseen twist occurred: her leg became entangled behind his, causing us both to trip as we were intricately intertwined. It was a moment that added a thrilling dash of human error to the flawless performance, making it even more memorable for me as a devoted fan.
Fortunately, the incident did not escalate into significant problems. Instead of potentially causing a severe stumble, SZA skillfully disentangled herself, allowing the performance of her song “Diamond Boy” to continue smoothly.
After the mistake, fans were amazed at how the Grammy-winning artist handled the situation with composure.
One X user observed that the recovery was remarkably seamless compared to many others’ debuts, whereas another praised it as a well-executed comeback.
I couldn’t help but sense a hint of unease beneath her nonchalant demeanor regarding that glitch – it was almost as if I could read it in her eyes, just like when she let out that little chuckle emoji. As another fan put it so eloquently, “She sure seemed captivated by him, no denying that!
Yet, though that particular dance move didn’t go as SZA, aged 35, intended, there were definitely many unexpected moments still to come during her performance.
Indeed, the artist known as “Snooze” collaborated closely with Kendrick Lamar to ensure that their co-headlining tour offers a unique and distinct show compared to their Super Bowl Halftime Show performance in 2025.
During an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in March, SZA hinted that they were working on something exciting, a month after performing at the Super Bowl halftime show. She mentioned that it’s like they’re both just tossing ideas everywhere to see what sticks.
She mentioned that the upcoming Grand National Tour, which includes cities such as Houston, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Chicago, and Detroit – being their first stadium shows – has them incredibly excited. In her words, “We’ve got to pull out all the stops!
