Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement Confirm They Are Currently Writing a Second Season for Time Bandits

As a long-time gamer and avid fan of unique storytelling, I’m genuinely excited about Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement‘s plans for “Time Bandits” Season 2. The duo’s collaboration on this Apple TV+ original series has been a breath of fresh air, and their eclectic take on the 1981 film by Terry Gilliam keeps me engaged.

Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement are asking fans for support to bring back “Time Bandits” for a second season on Apple TV+. This original series is inspired by Terry Gilliam’s 1981 film and boasts an intriguing ensemble, with the creators themselves being a part of it. Waititi and Clement have previously worked together on projects such as “What We Do in the Shadows.” In their latest venture, they explore the tale of a boy embarking on a journey through time. Although no formal announcement has been made yet, the duo revealed they have begun writing the script for another thrilling adventure.

At a recent online event promoting “Time Bandits” before its release on July 24th, ComicBook had the opportunity to chat with Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement. When queried about potential plans for a second season, Clement shared, “We’ve been working on a second season’s script, but whether it comes to fruition hinges upon the success of this initial one. If viewers don’t tune in, we may have no choice but to abandon it.”

He added, “But I cannot tell you because I don’t want to spoil the second season.”

Jemaine Clement discusses Pure Evil costume in Time Bandits

Together with creating and writing the script for “Time Bandits,” Jemaine Clement plays the character Pure Evil. His costume is quite intricate. When questioned about the most comfortable and uncomfortable aspects of the suit, Clement responded, “The costume isn’t uncomfortable because it’s made of velvet robes. It’s quite comfy, I must say [laughs].”

I must admit, there’s one downside to Clement’s Pure Evil costume that I’ve noticed – its length makes transporting it quite a chore, particularly when going up the stairs.

He remarked, “It’s quite a long way up, making it a real struggle to get there. Plus, I believe I was wearing tall boots last time. Ladies in heels at events like the Met Gala have my admiration now.”

What is Time Bandits about?

Join an amusing and risky adventure through time and space with a motley crew of burglars and their latest addition: an 11-year-old history enthusiast. As a team, they embark on an exhilarating mission to rescue the boy’s parents, as well as the world.

In this intriguing show, you’ll find Lisa Kudrow, Kal-El Tuck, Tadhg Murphy, Roger Jean Nsengiyumva, Rune Temte, Charlyne Yi, Rachel House, Kiera Thompson, James Dryden, Felicity Ward, Francesca Mills, and Imaan Hadchiti as the main cast members. Additionally, keep an eye out for special appearances by Waititi and Clement in “Time Bandits.”

With a total of 10 episodes, the Apple TV+ series “Time Bandits” is brought to life by Paramount Television Studios, Anonymous Content’s AC Studios, and MRC. Jemaine Clement, Iain Morris, and Taika Waititi take on the roles of executive producer, writer, and director for certain installments. Co-showrunning duties are handled by Clement and Morris, while Garrett Basch, Tim Coddington, and Jane Stanton also assume executive producing positions. Handmade Films is represented in this production by Stanton.
