With the approaching June 5 debut of the Switch 2, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick expresses high hopes for the console and their partnership with Nintendo as a third-party game publisher. During a recent investor Q&A (reported by IGN), Zelnick praised Nintendo’s efforts in backing third-party publishers, noting that it represents a positive shift from how the company has historically handled such relationships.

View Urgent ForecastIn a recent statement, Zelnick mentioned that Take-Two Interactive will be releasing four games on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, which he believes is a larger variety of titles than they’ve ever offered with a new Nintendo system before. He went on to say that working as a third party in the Nintendo business has traditionally been difficult, but he thinks Nintendo has made significant strides in addressing these challenges. In light of this, Take-Two Interactive is also making an effort to step up and capitalize on their optimism for the new platform.
Additionally, he mentioned that Take-Two intends to back the console with their own games, yet stressed they may not port each title to the Switch 2. Instead, they will evaluate each game individually for potential release.
Regarding our approach to different platforms, we handle each situation individually. Our goal is to reach consumers where they’re most active, but we don’t automatically release every game on every platform. There are also beneficial opportunities in curated collections.
Among the games that Take-Two Interactive has announced will be available on the Switch 2 are Civilization 7, Borderlands 4, and titles from the NBA 2K and WWE 2K series. Civilization 7 is set to debut alongside the console’s launch, while Borderlands 4 will be accessible on the system when it releases alongside other platforms on September 12th. At this time, neither of the sports games nor Take-Two’s biggest upcoming game, Grand Theft Auto 6, have confirmed release dates for the Switch 2. It remains to be seen if GTA 6 will appear on Nintendo’s console.
Despite GTA 6 being postponed to May 26, 2026, analysts from DFC Intelligence consider the upcoming Switch 2 launch as the most significant console debut of all time. This is because the delay of GTA 6 into 2026 has left a gap in the market for the remainder of the year, which could also influence the sales of PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.
During a recent earnings call, Nintendo projected to sell approximately 15 million units of the Switch 2 during the upcoming fiscal year. This figure aligns with their initial projections for the original Switch in 2017. However, it’s important to note that this relatively small sales forecast is due to the console’s higher price point compared to its predecessor.
Given that the Switch 2 costs more than the first model, it’s clear we may face significant challenges in getting the console widely used at the beginning,” he explained.
